Any way to prepare for Rear Windshield Shattered 2020 RDX

I will make sure I have a big plastic bag and duct tape. I have noticed there is a gap between gap and plastic back gate cover.

Can I put a tape on that space so pieces do not get inside of the gate? Or another way to prevents pieces to get inside is using some sort of backer rod for filling gaps and openings. Anyway I am not sure if that gap can be closed.

Dealer said "you can do it" ...... but

and Fu.K it just happened on me. I did not secure that space. I did not have time. It blowed out in my garage right after tuning car on. So I opened the gate and put tape between the gap of plastic cover and rest pieces of window. Drove to dealer for replacement. The dealer was no suppressed and welcome in the club of ...... yeah.

Funny, I get a loaner - same model with less milage 3K and guess what ...... I opened the trunk and saw small pieces of window on the RDX loaner. Opened and closed the gate and hear a lot of pieces inside of the gate. This is really FUCK.

Acura it should be safety issue on this car for that stupid window. Squeaky breaks, sunroof issue, front suspension issue, and of course back window issue. Not that many like car assembled in the US.

Wow, talk about bad luck/timing. You make a post about it and two days later it happens. Hopefully they can get most of the shards out of there.

How many miles did you have on it?

25K and there is no way to remove all pieces from it. Bad design of that gate - it suck all pieces but no way to remove them. Was told by a dealer only whole gate replacement fix that. I know they try to blow air in it since I saw thousand small pieces on back seats - lucky me I noticed that before my kids seat on the back.

The way to prepare is to sell the RDX I'm afraid. My rear window shattered nearly 3 years after purchase. Some commentators on YouTube say they have had two rear window shattering incidents.

We recently put clear tint on the rear window to hold the glass if it does shatter.

This is an excellent idea. I am surprised it hasn't been mentioned before (or I may have missed it). I see folks mentioning having tint applied to the front windshield.....

And some are 1 week after purchase and many haven’t shattered. It’s certainly not consistent. Truly a weird issue.

Plastic and tape.

The crazing of the remaining glass resulted in the complete loss of any rear window glass by the time mine was replaced.

I have to admit every winter I used frequently remote OEM starter and from what i know that caused rear window heating was ON all the time so it fired the window. Other resolution is disconnect heat cables from back window. Unfortunately I don't know where they are located and it access to them is easy.
