Wrapped my Emblem Ring!

I decided to wrap the ring around my emblem, I am not a huge chrome person, I like badges in chrome, but the ring was a bit much in my opinion for the amount of flashy chrome on the front.

So I ordered some 3M G12 2080 vinyl and wrapped the ring, wasn’t difficult at all and I think it looks so sleek now!
Also popping the emblem ring off wasn’t bad at all, just 4 clips in the corners, just have to be careful to not dent or knick the plastic

Looks good, nice work! Interesting that your emblem is 2 parts, I think it's 1 piece the ring and the A on most other models. I tried wrapping my front emblem and it's a PITA with the top slot in the A and the inside corners.

Can you please explain how to pop off the outer ring. Flat screw driver and lift?
I want to do both the front and back emblem.

you will want a thin object, like a plastic pry tool or a strong thin blade, and kinda just work each corner slowly out, I think I did it mostly from the outside part of the ring, not the inside, careful not to knick marks into the plastic, if you do you will want to get them off cause the wrap will have a sharp point under it

Good stuff! Do you have a wider angle showing more of the car?

Thanks for the idea Dereileak...had mine wrapped today. Very happy with the result. It was wrapped without taking the ring off.

I’ve plastidiped mine; it’s easier and looks fine but I’d say these vinyl wrap looks very nice.

plastidip has limitations...

if you're fine with those limitations and the results it produces, go right ahead!!!

if, however, you want something more robust and more professional looking, vinyl is the way to go.

Did you have to removed it or not?

Agreed, vinyl no doubt nicer, but has to be done by the shop, where as plasti dip I can do it myself...wonder how much they charge for something small like that..

you can vinyl wrap yourself...
for such a small area, you could just buy a square of vinyl

That’s not too bad $20, I don’t think I can do it myself, considering the use of sharp cutter..

its very easy to wrap yourself, you will need a heat gun tho. And I recommended removing it, it’s easy 4 tabs In the corners, that way you can get the vinyl behind the emblem and make sure you don’t have any chrome spots show through. Although several have wrapped it without taking it off. I went with 3M G12 2080 vinyl, bought a 1 ft by like 4 ft piece, Enough to wrap it about 5x If mistakes were made, but had no problems

Is the wrap semi- gloss or full gloss black? Or is it matte? I can't tell in the pic.

Pulled the trigger and bought some 3m gloss black wrap today. Was planning on doing just the chrome ring but could i put a sheet over the 'A' also? Would this interfere with the ACC sensors?

Could this process be the same for the MDX emblem?

Can't believe I've owned this over 3 years and never thought of just wrapping the ring. I have paint and clear that I got way back when, was just too lazy to paint it.

And sadly, I just happen to have a matching piece of film on the shelf. 10 minutes later...

Appreciate the DIY OP.

Time to wash this thing...

No,
The trim ring has 4 clips at each top and bottom corners.
I used two plastic interior pry tools and wedged one under and slid the other around to the tab and they released. Did that on all 4 corners.
Then I traced the Acura emblem on transfer paper and then added about 1/4 inch to the outline of the emblem and cut my tint to cover just the emblem.
Cleaned the radar lens really good with IPA and then used a heat gun to heat the surface and applied the tint just smoothing it from the middle up and middle down and the shrinking to seal it up.
Scotch bright the chrome really really good and clean with IPA and primer and satin black rattle can paint.
and call it a day.

Not really my style but the quality of the work is good. I prefer the chrome accent which IMO draws the eye to the Acura logo against the black grille.

Thank you for the detailed instructions! I took a closer look at the emblem today and the emblem ring is just sitting on the outermost exterior. Surprised we haven't done this much earlier. Appreciate the thread and help yall.

Quick question for everyone that wrapped their emblem, have you ran into any issues with your radar or sending you error messages? i want to do this as well but i've been told that the radar is very sensitive and has been hesitant because of that

I've had mine tinted and emblem ring wrapped for almost 2 years now with zero issues. Just don't tint it too dark and you'll be good to go

Spent an hour trying to wrap my emblem ring. I just can't do it. No matter how hard I try, me and vinyl just don't get along. Tried wrapping my rear lights on my last car and nope. Guess I'll just pay someone to do it

This piece is simple to wrap if you remove it. How are you trying to apply it? I fee like you should be able to just lay a vinyl on top flat, slit or cut out the middle some, then just use heat and stretch the vinyl down the sides. Trim excess when done. Clear as mud I know LOL
