Now it’s an A-Tech?
Well, the front is done along with the sides using Acura Aspec trim. The front required the bumper to be removed so I had a local reputable shop do this for me for $100. I supplied all the parts since I had the trim wrapped with PPF ahead of time. I’m stopping for now. Maybe I’ll get the black wheels when I need new tires but I also don’t really mind the graphite look either....

this response made me think it was pretty easy to do the sides (4 parts). Just for the hell of it, I asked Acura how much. Craziness. “Talked to service they would get 3-4 hours labor @ 155.00 per”. That was Acura Boston

I also got the Aspec parts for the front, but I haven't installed those yet. Since the entire front of my RDX is PPF'd, I'm having the parts done and then I need to carve out time to investigate what is involved with the grill trim and lower chrome swap entails. If anyone is close to Raleigh and knows how to do this sort of thing, PM me LOL. |

Looking to do this A-spec conversion on our recently acquired 2020 Tech RDX... can someone please post the final list of part numbers needed for the front bumper conversion? I did not see that listed in this thread. Thanks!

Good luck with the rear quarter window chrome trim. I believe it is attached to the glass, (as it shows in the parts listing posted earlier) meaning the glass needs to be removed and reinstalled.
Those who have ordered the parts will figure this out when they arrive. Let us know! |
The trim pieces above the window are held on by a screw however I dont think it is easy to remove without damaging them. The bottom door pieces are held on by plastic clips and adhesive. This would be very hard to remove without damaging. The rear quarter window is attached to the glass. I replaced all pieces but this piece with A-spec and then wrapped this one.

Any tips on removing the bottom trim pieces in each door (4 total)? That’s all I purchased. Any special tools to pull off? I was thinking of using Dental floss to get under adhesive and then something to pry off clips (screw driver?). Has anybody been able to remove without damaging them? I assume installing new ones they just pop in?

Yes I did and it worked great for the rear window. However, it was time consuming putting it on and I used a heat gun,

Yeah, there is no way to not damage. They will just break when you pull them. You might get lucky with one, but they are definitely stuck on good with the adhesive and clips.

Can anything be done about the giant Acura logo in the front? Can the chrome surround on the giant logo be deleted? I know it's the front facing radar, but...how would a wrap effect it?

We have a white Tech that we did the A-Spec black trim update to... but it was not a wrap.

I'm having everything wrapped next Friday, I'm not bothering with replacing everything. The chrome delete wrap is going to cost $300 less than the cost of all the parts - not including the labor (or my time) to install it all. I just had the black rims swapped out today and it's getting tinted this Friday. The inlet grill is the black plastic mesh looking piece inside the front bumper that the black U shaped A-Spec trim attaches to. On the non A-Spec it is a L shape so the inlet grill is a different design. The duct is what attaches behind it. I was not sure if the duct was needed but ordered it anyways since it is so cheap. I would recommend comparing the part numbers on the duct to see if your model is the same or not. You will definitely need the inlet grill however as the difference has been shown earlier in this thread.

Durability. I have done a vinyl wrapped de-chrome on my Volvo XC90 R-Design and while it looks good after a year or two of driving you can see some wear on the vinyl and some peeling in areas (at the edges mostly). It is not as durable as the factory pieces. You also need to be careful of car washes you go to as the drive through ones are not recommended for vinyl wrapped cars (if you use that type of car wash to begin with).
Its a personal choice, I was okay paying extra for factory parts that should hold up over many years.. |
