CarPlay is not working in my 2020 RDX Advance
CarPlay is not working in my 2020 RDX Advance that was built 11/2019. My car came with D.1.2.1 software installed. I have not updated from there in fear that an update would cause glitches with CarPlay operation. I bought the car brand new about 1 year ago to the date. Up until 3 weeks ago there have only been minor glitches, but nothing like I am experiencing now. CarPlay will turn on, but then within 60 seconds to about 8 minutes CarPlay disconnects. As recommended by an Acura tech at my local dealership I use an Apple branded cable. I have had this issue while using my iPhone 6s Plus and my iPhone 12 Pro.
This is VERY frustrating as I bought the RDX with CarPlay being a feature that I had to have. Is anyone else experiencing similar problems? I heard there was a class action lawsuit regarding similar issues.

I was excited when I first bought the car, but now I am not happy at all. This is my 2nd Acura and it will be my last. I have already recommended to my friends, family, and co-workers to stay away from purchasing new Acura vehicles.

As described here, CarPlay can be temperamental, and the updates both on your phone AND on the Acura often/usually work in tandem. Like others here, I am a Public Beta Tester for Apple and have been reporting issues directly to Apple as well. So, take a step back and collect your information. What version of iOS are you using on your iPhone? You mention your version in your car; and I have had difficulty updating, which I describe in other threads so I will not rehearse all of that here. I recommend trying to gather the information and go from there.

I’m glad you are conversant with all of this stuff. This is my first CarPlay vehicle and I had some issues....in fact I think I have a conversation thread about how mine was doing the same thing as yours. Without going into the drama (I did post my experiences somewhere in this site) I finally got my my ECU to accept updates and now it works flawlessly.
BTW, I am running iOS 14.4 on my iPhone 8+
Blessings!

Try setting up your phone as new. Do not use an iCloud backup. It’s a pain manually adding the apps, etc. but it worked for me. And I was beyond frustrated for months with CarPlay.

My Carplay stopped working when I used the Ankor brand of lightning cable. I switched back to a genuine Apple brand cable and Carplay worked immediately. I bought the .5 meter one direct from Apple for $19.00. Just an idea for you.

I have been running an Apple cable. Good news is I just updated my Acura software and CarPlay is back again.

After two hours of driving today, the new update (an aggregate of two large updates) D1.5.1 has so far resolved all of my infotainment/CarPlay related issues thus far.
- no more blue screen of death (yet)
- no more aggressive second screen navigation with a mind of its own
- no more lag when skipping or rewinding music
- no more jerky animations when using Siri
-the touch pad is much better (though I still wish it worked the same way as Acura had intended as it actually works quite well).
Now when I plug my phone in CarPlay immediately loads with Apple Maps on the Main Display and Apple Music (or whatever my last audio app was) loaded to the second screen.
It seems like they’ve finally got it working like my last car (Toyota RAV4) where when using an iPhone the RDX Infotainment unit essentially just becomes a CarPlay machine. Which is personally what I always wanted.

This continues to be complete BS... I have to reboot my vehicle infotainment system or stop the car, turn it off and open the driver door in order get it work?
This is my last Acura...don’t tell me it’s my iphone as it works with out issue in my Lexus.
If my wife and I are in the RDX and my phone is plugged into USB for carplay it drops out consistent since my wife’s phone is using bluetooth and has a connection to the RDX. WTF?! Do you think that Acura could figure out how to set priorities over which connection takes precedence? Even if we were both using bluetooth only, there should be a primary and secondary connection available in the setup menu or tied to which driver (1 or 2) is driving. These are simple things.
I’ll be getting rid of this hot mess in favor of a vehicle that can manage basic connectivity.
