Newbie here and I have a few questions about my 2021 RDX A-Spec. Sorry if those already have been covered…
NAVIGATION 1) I know we can add favorites but can we edit them? I would like to name the favorites; not just show the address. It's an easy task in my wife's 2019 CR-V and in my previous (Macan S) car but I didn't find out yet how to do it in the RDX. It surely is possible as we can see this Acura own video about using navigation!! (see picture below).
2) Is it possible to save a location as a favorite? (I mean a place the car is already at). Easy task in the CR-V and Macan but in the RDX???
USB MUSIC 3) My music source is always a USB key. Most of the time, all is ok, but it regularly happens that the car don't recognize the key. Even if I unplug/plug the key many times, nothing change. The day after, all is fine but it can happen anytime. Any hint please?
My RDX is a 2020, so my answer may not be applicable to your 2021. That being said…..
1 - no, I can’t name a saved destination.
2 - no, I can’t save a current location.
3 - get used to it, the usb is hit or miss.
It is disappointing, as my 2018 F150 has the ability to do these, and it’s slowly XLT trim.
As an aside, I seriously considered a Macan S prior to purchasing my RDX. What a blast of a car to drive! I compromised with the RDX thinking it had better reliability. While I sort of like my RDX, I can’t say I’m completely satisfied.

So sad that the navigation is not up to the task... Even a $125 GPS bought at Canadian Tire can do this. This Acura navigation system is a huge deception for me. But I really wonder why their own video shows edited favorites; I've seen this at more than one place on Acura website. It really is frustrating. I almost returned the car within 10 days of ownership to take back the Macan S I gave as a trade...
I LOVED my Macan S!! And it has been 100% reliable during the 3 years I owned it.
The only reasons I changed it is money related: Cost of regular maintenance, cost of insurance, cost of gas, Acura's reliability.
That being said, like you, I kind of like the RDX but there are a few deceptions and it's far from sure my next car will be an Acura.
I can't imagine using factory nav. Google or Apple Maps are 1000% better.
I understand. But if I'm not mistaken, using Google maps require a cell phone and Android auto (Am I right?).
And doing this require the use of the only USB plug that can be used to listen to USB music...

Yes, I do have a cell phone. But to use Android auto, I need to plug my phone using the only USB port that can be used to listen to music via USB key. That means that I can not use Google maps AND listen to USB music at the same time. And listen to music via USB is what I do 90% of the time.
Also, if the car comes with a navigation, I think it should be selfsufficient and good enough to be up to the task (which the current Acura navigation system is NOT).

My 2022 has wireless CarPlay so I’m spoiled….
You can’t play music from your phone? I’m not well versed in Android but you’d think there was a way to load music on your phone rather than relying on a usb stick?
Acura is not alone with below par factory Nav. Our 2018 QX60 is quite bad and the 2019 Lexus NX I traded in wasn’t great.
Wireless Android auto is new to 2022 models.
Yes, I suppose I could play music via my phone; I'll to try it while using Google maps.
But I'm still under a huge deception that a cell phone need to be used as a crutch for a failing navigation system... Real huge deception.
Thanks for your comments!!
When I first got my RDX, I hated the GPS. Now that I figured it out, I love it. You have to call up a Restaurant or whatever by name, not by address. It will then display by name, as in the photo, display the proper icon, and the phone # will show up for calling when you click on the bottom right and then click on the address on the next screen. This doesn't work for people, just businesses. I generally go to phone contacts to navigate to my friends. The remaining weird thing is that it won't let you attach a phone # to Home. Have USB plugged in with 5.1 24/7, so Android auto is useless for me. Try a better quality USB for problem #3. I use a 1TB SanDisk Pro. Once a month or so, it won't recognize, but just pulling it and reinserting it does the trick, otherwise, it's fine.

I agree, I tried the Android Auto thing, but overall the built-in Nav/Music experience is superior. I imagine people who arent Audio-snobs like us, or people who "only know spotify" would prefer the App experience. But honestly the positional touchpad interface i think is SO good compared to the 'mouse-like' interface...i wouldnt want to give that up.

Interesting. I got my RDX since about 2 months now and, honestly, I did not find all its potential yet. Will try to persevere and "play" with it more and more.
To navigate to friends and non-business address, I use my phone but in wireless connection as no need to use Android auto to do so.
As I wrote above, my biggest deception is being unable to rename the favorites. My wife can do this in a breeze in her 2019 CRV. Using my phone's contact is my alternative but I still consider this as a crutch.

You can store your current location as a favorite in the navigation system. It takes several steps, but it can be done.
In the navigation screen, touch the Touchpad and click "Explore". Your location should be centered in the screen. If not, you can click the bottom-right "Re-center" icon.
Click the "Pin Mode" icon at the bottom-left. Drop the pin on top of your location. It isn't accurate, so you may have to re-click a few times to get the pin where you want it. When you place the pin, that location's address is displayed.
Click "Done" at the top-right and the screen updates to show the location, the address and a few options. Click "Add to Favorites".
You can't edit the details, but the location is saved as a Favorite Location (30 total).
In my 2011 Accord that I traded for the RDX, I could press the voice button and simply say, "Register Current Location". Done! That's all it took.
Ron, I know I can save favorites; my question was to know if they can be edited.
Saving an address without renaming it is like saving phone numbers in your cell without writing the name of the contact: USELESS!
But thanks anyway for your post!

You, sir, get the award for analogy of the month!
Ron, thanks for the tip on saving a current location. I tried it and, while not intuitive as most every other vehicle out there, it works.
I’ve also tried going to contacts and navigating to an address from there. I noticed that, even though I have two addresses associated with my name in my cell phone, only one shows up on the car. Also, some contacts are missing addresses even though they are in my phone. Any suggestions for re-syncing the car with the phone?
Thanks! I think it,s the best way to decribe the non editable favorite situation. I don't understand why there are not more complaints about this...

Glad to know that Ron's trick do work! I thought it would only work it 2011-ish systems. Will try it for sure!

Same here! I thought it was my cell phone and/or my lack of techno knowledge that were the culprits. Ironically, my Acura dealer is one of those that don't work. I have phone and address in my phone but only the phone shows when I call it through the RDX navigation. I closed-up and restarted my cell phone a few times but nothing changed. Please let us know if someone knows how to straighten this up.

Put all your music on your phone. That's what I've always done.

Claude, I was responding to your second question in your original post: "2) Is it possible to save a location as a favorite? (I mean a place the car is already at). Easy task in the CR-V and Macan but in the RDX???"
Unless I misunderstood the question, you wanted to know if you could "save a location as a favorite" of "a place the car is already at", i.e., your current location. The steps I provided do that.
Did you mean something else?

Only problem with that is that you cannot play high-quality lossless music in this fashion.
Bluetooth has a MAXIMUM of 2/mb per second in perfect conditions. Alot of lossless music is higher bitrate than that. So if you play from the phone it is scaling down the quality.

Ron, you're totally right and I was wrong; sorry for this. I misread your post, thinking that you were writing how to save a (standard) favorite. Again, sorry for this...
And about the expressions I wrote (save a location as a favorite" or "a place the car is already at"), you're right again; I should have wrote "current location". It's only because I'm a french speaking guy (from Quebec, Canada) and that I'm not 100% bilingual so my vocabulary is not always up to the task.
Thanks again for your post; I printed in order to be able to read it while seated in my RDX.

Claude, No apology necessary. I just wanted to make sure I hadn't misread your question, hoping I could provide an answer if it was something else you were looking for.
By the way, I am of French-Canadian descent but am 0% bilingual! My grandparents were all from the Quebec area.
Ok but usb is better than Bluetooth. I have no problem with the sound. Certainly not going to manage my music with a usb stick. Too easy with Apple Music.

Anyone knows the answer to jfkmk's situation??
I do have the same problem and I would really like to know how to solve it...
Thanks!!

actually, I solved this just today. I had to delete my phone from the vehicle and reattach it. It now shows all of my updated contacts. I haven’t tried updating another yet to see if I have to do this every time a contact is updated or added, I sure hope not.

I tried your trick; three times. But it failed three times. I hate such situations when what should work easily, each time, don't...
But thanks anyway; glad you solved your problem.
Android auto sends most info to the car via 5ghz wifi, not bluetooth. I don't know about music, though. Hopefully it sends via wifi then its bandwidth would essentially be as good as USB stick.

SO it does! I had made an assumption that it was all bluetooth, but just read about it. Thanks!

over the weekend, I updated my sons address in my contacts on my phone. Although the car is supposed to automatically update contacts, but today - 3 days and multiple car trips later - it’s still showing his old address when I look up his address via the RDX’s infotainment system. I deleted my phone, added it back, and his address was updated. So, just as suspected, it looks like I’ll have to go through this process any time I update a contact. Thanks, Acura!

That's something they outta fix. Now that you mention it, I've only seen the "importing contacts" message when pairing a phone - not when starting up.

This is why I don’t use manufacturer infotainment. CarPlay and done.

I'll try again the procedure but I'm not expecting any positive result.
They'll probably do it but only on future versions. I would more expecting a retro-active improvement though. If I need to buy a new car to have the satisfaction I was expecting before buying the current one, it surely won't wear the Acura logo...
