2020 RDX Wireless Android Auto?

Does the 2020 RDX accept wireless AA as offered in Android 11? Thank you.

Welcome to the forums.

The following is posted at the top of the New Member Introductions forum: Welcome! Please introduce yourselves here, BUT ASK FOR HELP IN THE TECHNICAL FORUMS

Since this is a topic/technical issue which will require replies and discussion, and not an introduction, this thread has been moved to the model specific forum.

That would be so awesome, but I highly doubt it. The head unit has to support it, and Acura needs to update the software (*gasps*).

Bringing this thread back from the dead...Has anyone picked up an AAWireless? It's from the same guy that created HeadUnit Reloaded which allowed us to have Android Auto prior to Acura officially releasing it to our cars. Next batch of shipments is in June right now. I've been thinking of picking one up but I was also hoping Acura would release an update (maybe wishful thinking) for us to do it since our cars can technically do it.

I did order one quite a while ago and expect to have it soon. I'll report back when in hand and tested. Hoping in the next couple of weeks.

Awesome! Looking forward to hear how well or not well it works with our head unit. Might pick one up just for the sake of it since I could always use it on my other car if Acura ever decides to release Wireless Android Auto with an update.

@NBPDC505 Was just wondering if you received your order of the AAWireless as of yet? I was looking into getting this as well. Thank you in advance!

Hey, yes, I did receive it and it works wonderfully. I've ordered another for the other half's 2021 CR-V as well after my experience with it. Her technology experiences do not mirror mine so I am hoping it simplifies things for her.

I'm trying to get my head around how it works. It seems to need Wi-Fi, correct? So...where does the Wi-Fi come from...assuming one is not using the RDX's built-in AT&T (pay to use) wi-fi?

Sorry, morning brain fog.

The dongle has its own SOC with wifi built-in. You can think of it like a router that mirrors the AA interface it receives on wifi, then pass that through USB using AA protocols to the head unit.

Thanks! Now that I am fully awake, I realized (remembered) that wi-fi is different than internet access! DUH! Of course I know this....A router can connect devices, but only a cellular device or modem can access "the internet" ... which, among other things, includes many apps that AA uses. Example: Google maps/Waze.

This dongle is just acting as a router, to distribute to the car's infotainment system, via wi-fi, the signal that the AA app gets from a cellular network-connected cell phone.

Back to the subject at hand: is Android Auto supported wirelessly in the RDX over Bluetooth? From what I can tell, it's supposed to be. However, I've tried every instruction I can find on YouTube, and none of them work. I've only had my 2021 Advance for a couple of weeks now. I'm a bit of a novice with the menus, but not THAT much of a novice. If someone knows it's not supported, I'll stop wasting my time.

Answering my own question, the dealer says it isn't. So ordered the AAWireless thingy. It's due in October.

That's a good option, because I still don't have the AAWireless thingy that was promised in October.

I'm curious on this as well. Will see how it goes against AAWireless. Would be nice to just order through available e-commerce merchants like Amazon without having to wait for months.

I have an AAwireless with the 2021 RDX Advance and the unit disconnects so often that it makes driving absolutely dangerous. It was acting up after the Android 12 update. Horrible ever since with no fox on sight.

I got the same problem before I changed to a high-quality USB-C cable.

Android 12? Because I have a high quality cable too. And it didn't make a difference.

Well there you go. It doesn't work properly and Android 12. So therefore anybody who bought a new phone this year is going to have a problem considering Android 12 will be loaded on it.

Got the AAWireless adapter a couple of days ago that was promised in October. Paired it up with the phone, changed the required AA settings on the phone, etc. The adapter's LED changes from red to green to blue once it's connected. That part of it seems to be working ok. The phone says it's connected to the car via Android Auto wireless. However, the Android Auto icon on the car's menu remains grayed out. Says it's unavailable. I've tried a couple of different cables, resetting the AAWireless device, restarting the phone, restarting the car, etc. The AAWireless app says the software is up to date. Still no success. The fact that the phone says it's connected leads me to believe there's something wrong at the car's end. All the settings seem to be correct, but still nothing. Unplugging the AAWireless and plugging the phone into the cable results in AA starting up and running in wired mode just fine. More investigation required, I guess.

Exactly where do you go on Amazon to pre order this? It just says currently unavailable and does not allow me to place order.

I received my Motorola MA1 from Amazon and after many hours of trying, have been unable to get it to work in my 2020 RDX. The device will pair ok with my phone's bluetooth, but it will not connect to Android Auto. I've tried rebooting all the devices with same outcome every time. If anyone gets this to work, let us know on the forum. Mine is getting returned to Amazon soon.

Just received the Motorola unit and installed in about 2 minutes.

Works flawlessly so far!

Just keep your phone in you pocket and AA starts up automatically when you turn the car on!

After my initial hurdle, install for Motorola MA1 went easily and has been working great so far. First day at least a dozen in - outs; driving, on - off have not had any drops or noticeable lag. Takes 25-27 seconds from pushing power on, to load
