Which Year 2019/20 or 21

I'm in the market for a second hand used vehicle and wonder what your thoughts are about the Gen 3 2019, 2020 and 2021 versions. I'll probably look for the premum sound package. Other than that are the 202 or 21 noticeably better in any way other than the navigation/console display to make the extra expense worth it. Thank you in advance for your thoughts and guidance.

The only real benefit of 19 to 20 to 21 is that with every year they had a lot of time and chances to improve parts, codes...etc. This means the 21's should be the most reliable of the three. Other than that there is no real changes with respect to features, packaging...etc.

With that being said, I'd rather get a 20 with a good service history over a 21 with a spotty one.

Never a 2019

I saw the 2019 was the low point in reliability in a ranking - JD Powers I think it was. I own one and my experience supports a low ranking. I just had the infotainment system replaced for the second time. Apple play constantly won’t connect unless you stop the car, turn it off and open the door to reboot and start the car again. No fix ever suggested in here or from service works consistently. My sun roof exploded. Warranty didn’t cover even though Acura now has TSB’s covering exploding rear windows. Next, look up limp mode. I experience something similar twice. Mine was more like a shift into neutral while accelerating into highway ramps. But it wasn’t in neutral even though I could rev the engine. Service found no codes thrown - so nothing to fix - so basically good luck on the rest of my 500 mile trip home. I love the car until i just couldn’t anymore. Now I have a horrible sour taste in my mouth for the car and I fear the next problem. Don’t buy a 2019.

I would test drive several RDX models to get a feel for the driving dynamics with vehicle with various trim levels and mileage.

Usually Acura/Honda get more reliable with less issues on average once they have the MMC and get towards the end of their model cycle. Depending on your needs, I would toss the 18-20 3rd Gen MDX into the mix because it could be around the same price range depending on trim/mileage, has reliable Carplay, 290hp V-6 engine with 3500-5000lbs of towing, less road noise compared to 19-21 RDX, very comfy 2nd row seats, full size spare option, mpgs up to 26-28 on the hwy, can see +450 mile easy on the hwy on 19.5 gas tank, and drive/handle like a smaller SUV if it has sh-awd (19-20 MDX Adv or 18-20 Sport Hybrid also have electronic dampers). The 16-18 2nd Gen RDX would be a 2 row version of the 3rd Gen MDX without sh-awd; but, very reliable.

The other thing people often forget is that the 3rd generation MDX is only like 4-5" longer than an RDX. They're literally basically the same size!

I have an early 2021 build, built in 10/2020. It has been rock solid and reliable. Reading this forum, Acura had some teething issues with the 19 & 20 models (normal for any mfg with new models).

Personally, if I was in the market for a RDX, I’d be looking for a 2022 Aspec Advance - best of both words in terms of options and still should have the Acura warranty.

Lots of used inventory on lots that are not moving, it’s a buyers market - plenty of deals to be made - regardless of what they are asking for it.
