Sorry, but rx350 is kind of different car all together, I did not like the way it drives, to soft and detached from road. But if thats what you like, go for it

I know that the Lexus badge carries some weight; however, I do not understand how the RX 350 can hold that price point. I looked at an F-sport with similar specs to the RDX and it was over $60k. It was nice but..........not that nice.

Take is as a compliment I'm comparing the RDX to the RX350. The NX was too small to even consider.

Lexus quality, japanese reliability (#1 in the industry), prestige and dealership experience (loaner cars) is what draws me to them.

Too bad my bank account doesnt agree. Acura is a stepping stone to the top tier luxury companies.

Doesn't the RX compete with the MDX, not the RDX, especially now that there's a 3-row variant of it?

Dealer close by, value in this segment, fresh design, expected reliability based on my then perception of Acura, comfortable seats, no major red flags on brief test drive, lots of positive reviews on youtube.

The main areas of disappointment have been reliability and build quality.

I'd say my owner satisfaction is at 3.5/5.0.

The nav/carplay/infotainment system is a hot mess. It is really impacting my enjoyment of the car.

I am down here in Naples Florida, so I rely on that more than at home. The native nav often gets addresses wrong, and goes miles out of the way to get places. Traffic info is spotty. So I use carplay. Which often reboots a couple of times before it settles down, whether I am playing music or not.

Acura: Fix This Mess!!!

This is why I have car play disabled and I use directions directly off my phone while it sits in the cupholder.

It was the best value at the time for what I was looking for. The other contender was the x3, but had to pay an extra 10k to get more or less the same specs. I came from a Lexus and after my horrendous experience with customer service and lack of resolution for a mechanically deficient car, I have basically swore off the this brand all together. Those who think you get reliability from a Lexus/Toyota badge should reconsider, their quality has really gone down the drain in the last 10 years.

  1. Very modern interior design
  2. Passenger seat ability to raise/lower (important to wife. Surprised how hard this is to find on SUVs)
  3. Performance and size. Lexus NX was too small and too slow.

We just traded in our 2018 RDX Advance AWD for a 2020 RDX Advance SH-AWD. Our 2018 was nice and had no issues, but we like the 2020 a lot more- sportier, more responsive, better looking, newer tech, ……...

What drew me to the car:
1) Sublime handling for a crossover. It's no Porsche Macan, but it's much better than the other compact luxury crossovers (highest performance trims notwithstanding). SHAWD is no joke.
2) Styling. The front looks great, as does the side profile. Back is a little boring, but I can live with it, especially with the big faux exhaust "tips" on the A-Spec model.
3) Utility. It's bigger than its direct competitors.
4) Value. You get more for your money's worth compared to its direct competitors.
5) Turbo. I actually do prefer turbo-4's over V6s for a couple reasons. 1) They respond much better to aftermarket tunes; usually the stock tuning is overly conservative and a simple tune can do wonders for the torque curve. 2) They don't suffer from a drop in power at elevation like normally aspirated engines do. When loaded with people + cargo, even a V6 becomes asthmatic in the mountains, whereas a turbo-4 doesn't miss a beat.

What pushed me away:
1) Infotainment system. I've had 2 RDX loaners and both infotainment systems have given me problems
2) Lack of a touchscreen. The True Touchpad is OK, but I'd much rather prefer a touchscreen.
3) Local dealership customer service. The ones around my area almost never have loaners available, and one of them even charges $25/day for a loaner. Getting them to step up and honor the warranty is like pulling teeth. Doesn't seem like they care about retaining their customers one bit.
4) It doesn't feel like it has 272 horsepower. It doesn't pull as hard as some of its German counterparts that are rated to make less power. Methinks Acura is holding it back to protect either the transmission or some other part of the drivetrain, which doesn't fill me with much confidence about its longevity.

Seems like the first problem has been more or less solved. Here's hoping a MMC update can address 2 and 4. As for 3, I'm not holding my breath on that unless Acura starts really leaning on their dealerships to provide more consistence and better service, as it sounds like some people have great dealerships, and some (like myself) have penny-pinching trash.

BMW is known to underrate their engines AND the X3 is lighter than the RDX. Not sure about weight of other German vehicles.

Do you mind telling us what are your issues with Lexus? Just curious because I almost went that route. Thanks!

I agree with your first point, but isn't the X3 heavier? 4156lb for an xDrive30i vs 4026lb for a SHAWD Tech

I made a mistake, but according to this the X3 xDrive30i is 4041 lb, so less of a difference than you mention.

I dont know, I came from 1st gen RDX that was turbo, really liked it. Turbo has that boost that I like, I was contemplating to get 2nd gen RDX, but did not like it as much as 3rd gen. I had 2nd gen RDX as a loaner for a day, and it was not what I liked.
MPG could be lower than 2nd gen RDX, dont know, I never really cared about getting better MPG.

Now that I'm near 1000 miles on the RDX adv so I have some likes and dislikes based on what drove me to the RDX.
  • The seats are amazing. 10/10. This was the primary reason I got it and I have not been disappointed..
  • ELS audio: 10/10. I would give this 11/10. Best described as liquid sound all around you. I did not care about this when I bought it but I now believe that it is one of the best features of the car.
  • Ride/handling balance: 8/10. Comfort needs to be even softer and sport+ even firmer. Also needs an eco mode to get 10/10.
  • Navigation: 1/10. All the power of a 10 year old Garmin squeezed in a car. I don't use it. If Carplay is broken and I need it to get home - I suppose it would work to save it from a 0/10. To be honest, I knew it was bad when I got it and did not care.
  • Infotainment without the nav: 9/10. Took me a week but I am completely on board with the 1:1 touch pad. I did not like it for the few days, then it was OK, and now I hate the tough screen in my Subaru. Give me a hard button to make everything go blank for night use and its a 10/10.
  • Carplay: I have not had any issues with it but I have used it 2 times. I'm not rating it yet but it does work. This is one of the reasons I got the RDX but I just have not used it much.
  • Camera and 360 view: 4/10. Meh. Simply not good relative to other implementations but it is usable. Frame rate, resolution, views, everything could be improved. This was also a reason I got it but I knew it was not great when I test drove it. Basically, my expectations were 4/10 and they were met. I do like the button on the stalk to toggle between views.
  • Parking sensors: 10/10. Allow me to park in the exact same spot in my garage so I can walk all around the car. I like the Acura implementation better than others.
  • Fuel economy: 8/10. Getting close to 25mpg, which is higher than I expected. Fuel economy was not a major concern but it's been pretty good.
  • Performance: 6/10. IMO the people who have stated that it is doing something to limit torque in 1st and 2nd gear are correct. It''s not the the 87 I run because my friends RDX does the same thing with 93. Not as quick as I had anticipated but good enough.
  • Transmission: Started at 5/10 for the first 250miles and I was concerned that it did not shift like the sample I got for an o/n. Thankfully, now it's a solid 8/10. Could be due to break-in or learning habits.

Strange thing I have used the most: The auto tailgate open with my foot. I thought it was a gimmick but it's pretty awesome.
Thing I did not expect: It runs fine on 87.
