A better question is whether the partition between the storage trays is removable. The answer is no, unless you want to take out a major structural element of the vehicle.
The lateral "beam" in the rear floor of the vehicle is there to stiffen the body. ( Compensating for the huge hole in the roof, for one thing ). The beam is bolted in place so that it can be removed to service the headliner, but AFAIK it would be unwise to operate the vehicle without the beam in place.
The "under-floor" storage bins are an attempt to recover some of the storage capacity that was lost by dividing up the floor with the lateral beam. There is also some speculation that the forward one may house a battery pack in a future hybrid drivetrain.
