Touch pad gets HOT!!
Touch pad gets HOT!!
Wow. I parked the car on the top level of a parking garage yesterday and when I returned, the car was obviously hot as it was in the sun, but damn! I went to use the touch pad to change from AM to XM and boy does that touch pad get hot. I am talking so hot you don't want to touch it!
I might start putting an index card or something over it if I have to park in a hot spot in the future. Just a heads up here - anyone else find this out the hard way?

We have around 90-100 degrees here in Michigan. What i have experienced from my 19 RDX is it does not pick up cool air fast when inside temperature is high. It takes about 10 mins to get the cool level i wanted.
I find the 19 RDX cools as expected. It is always going to take some time to cool off a car that has been sitting in the heat of the summer sun. The amount of air that needs to be cooled inside an SUV takes time to be exchanged with chilled air. Add in the hot surfaces giving off heat.
I typically park in a parking garage at work so when I get in the RSX to drive home, the AC works great.

And, cracking the front or rear glass about a 1/2 inch to let out that built up heat. I know...it could rain...and IF it's expected then I don't crack the windows.
You can also place a smaller towel over the upper console area...if you are parking in the structure everyday and have to deal with this issue a lot.
Wow, I don't mind the hijack, but this is a REAL hijack! LOL
No matter. I just wanted to see if anyone else ran into the hotplate touchpad yet.
Anyway, to follow the turn of the thread, I have noticed that it takes a few minutes longer for this RDX to cool down than my former '17 RDX did. Not sure why or if it's just an illusion, but it did seem that it was a longer cool down than I expected.

Since we're on the topic of AC, how about some comments about how well the AC can keep the car cool on a hot sunny day, with the pano roof shade open vs closed, etc. I was reading a review about the Mazda CX5 where the reviewer took a trip from San Diego to the mountains and said the the AC seemed to struggle and couldn't keep the car cool to his liking and the weather was sunny but not humid.

hot air. Esp. when it's in the 90's and above. Also, to help out, when really hot out, I open the vents on the back side of the console so air can flow to the back areas faster. Don't have to do that just because you might have
passengers back there. Just quickens the cool down and cooling process. Bump the fan up higher until it gets cooled down....then regulate from there.
The Mazda has no power to begin with, and maybe the RPM's that the compressor pulley is turning is not up to the task?? I'm not sure. But, comparing the Mazda to this Acura or anything else is like apples to oranges when
doing a comparison like this. IMHO

The AC in the RDX will have no trouble keeping it cool. It’s been in the high 90’s here the last few weeks and I always feel comfortable in the car with the AC on- I don’t even keep it at the lowest setting because it gets too cold. This is with both the sunshade open/ closed. I’ve never been in a Honda/Acura product that has had trouble keeping the car cool in hot weather.

in those Hondas hardly moved a fraction. Those electric fans kick on and stay on when Idling....and it kept the radiator from getting hotter. Now most all new vehicles have electric fans, that are temp controlled. Not sure though
IF ALL vehicles run as cool as Honda Motor Corp. vehicles, but, I'm sure many do.

It has been over 100 the last few days here in Kansas City and I find that it cools down as expected. Even better when I can start the car 10 minutes early from my office on the second floor before I leave work...
