Timing belt / chain

How often are you changing timing belt (or is it chain)? Does the maintenance minder know when to replace it?

Its a chain, it has no set maintenance and supposed to be lifetime unless you have issues

You don't need to think about replacing the timing chain until you get close to 200k. In general, people view it as a lifetime component, unless you abuse the engine way beyond the norm.

Timing chain itself has proven to be one of the most reliable components on K-series engine over 20 years. Usually, it is the tensioner that shows sign of wears first.

Nobody replaces timing chains as preventative maintenance unless there is an issue (sound and etc), even if you have 300k miles.

Yeah, I remember I replaced the chain once (not on RDX, of course) just because the tensioner needed replacing and the cover was already taken off.

Believe it or not, but more frequent oil changes will help preventing excessive chain wear

So, my 2025 RDX has a timing chain; all this time I thought it had a timing belt. What a relief!

metal to metal contact oiling reduces wear, also not sure if tensioner for chain could be operated by oil pressure
api GF-6 has special test on chain wear. There is a lot of info on chain wear and importance of oil maintenance

^ Good point there!

Worth nothing, Chains normally aren't the issue, you have to worry about tensioner(K series issue) and guides failing too. But Chain is still way better than OG timing Belt although belt is way easier to replace.
