Should I add Fog Lights?

Going back to the dealership in May to have a few items added to the RDX.
  • Body Side Molding
  • Door Handle Film
  • Splash Guards
  • Welcome Lights
The above are fairly cheap. But I thought I wanted fog lights also until I saw the cost ($625 + Install). Not sure it is worth that.
Opinions? Does any one want to post a pick of their RDX (at night) with the Fog Lights on? From what I've seen, they are a bit boring and do not enhance the look of the car much.

I've never even used them, beyond making sure they work. Maybe I should just for the helluvit. But I would not pay that much to have them installed. For that kind of money, I'd sooner get the remote start.

I had fog lights in my prior car, which I had for 11 years. I don’t think I used them more than 5 or 6 times. My wife’s car has fogs, it is now 5 years old, and have been used maybe once or twice.

IMO, they are just not that worthwhile.

This may be one of the few areas I seem to disagree with you. I always get cars with fog lights....and always have them on. The more light on the road in front of me the better. Of Course, we almost NEVER have fog here in the desert SW. LOL

Yeah, like I said, I have them and I probably should get in the habit of using them just for the helluvit.

No real habit to form, turn them on, and leave your headlights in Auto mode. Done!

If you use auto high beams, the fogs will turn off and back on automatically.

Actually that's completely wrong.

The purpose of fog lights is to light up the area directly in front of your car and to the side. This is useful in heavy fog at low speeds.

The way the brain works (and this is involuntary), the eyes are drawn to the brightest area. When your fogs are on, this is the area directly in front of your car, but you really want to see farther down the road.

Get in any car (headlights on at night of course)and you'll see a dark area directly in front of your car for that very reason. With fogs on, your brain is battling your brain to see into the distance.

While the use of fogs is not regulated in the US, Germany (and much of Europe) regulates their use and it is only legal to use fogs when fog reduces visibility to under 50 meters. Interestingly eough, the fogs may only be used during fog, not rain or snow even if visibility is impaired equally. If visibility is reduced to 50 meters or less (regardless of reason), then the maximum speed is also set at 50kmh (about 30mph)

I always keep my fogs on for aesthetics, but they really don’t make a difference light-wise since the headlights are so bright already. I wouldn’t pay $625+ for them.

The fogs in the RDX are the best I have ever seen, they light up directly In front of the car and very well along the sides of the car where the ditch would be, they are aimed a very particular way, and look really good, idk if $600+ is worth it, but they do look really nice came installed on my A-Spec

Headlights illuminate fog creating "white screen" in front of you. Fog builds up a foot or so above the road. The idea of fog lights is to throw light below the fog.
I turn them on also during heavy rain or snow to make my car more visible to others. Fog light can also help when you lose one of headlights. Driving with right headlight only, makes car looking like motorcycle on the side of the road - for incoming traffic.

I really like having the Welcome Lights. It is great at night in the parking lot. I think you will like them. Fog lights are also great to have. They have helped me a few times and look great as well. I don't have the splash guards. I am not a big fan of the splash guards on the RDX. After driving mine in some fairly muddy areas I haven't had an issue with splash back onto the car. I think when you add those on, the RDX starts looking like a Subaru.
