Shifted to neutral?

I just got my 2021 RDX Advance last week and today while waiting in a drive thru in drive I heard a loud sound and noticed the car had shifted into neutral without any input on my part. I read up on it and found out this has been an issue in the past even with buyers suing Acura. Has anybody with a 2021 had this happen? I've made an appointment with the dealer 2 weeks into owning this vehicle...

Did you open the door? If so it would have automatically got into Park. Perhaps this is what you experienced? This is a safety feature.

One time, and one time only, while driving on a road in Florida, the car would not upshift.

I made it back to the condo. After I let the car fully shut down, an hour, I took it out again, and it shifted properly. I drive to Naples Acura and told them, but there were no codes.

It had happened only that once.

You sure it wasn't the auto shutdown/restart? It took me a while to realize it was doing that at lights (doh). I wish there was a way to bypass it that didn't reset every time you start the car.

No, I did not open the door at any point and also disengaged the engine shutdown. And it was a loud sound when it did shift to neutral. That is very concerning to say the least. Will see what the dealer says on Tuesday...

I’ll tell you right now:

No codes. Can’t duplicate.

I had the shift to park(when I pressed reverse) happen to me while on my driveway, it was weird when it happened, but my door might have been partly open, it just wouldn't go to reverse. I shut it off, got out and back in, and it shifted fine.

Since my driveway has a slight incline, if I park the car without applying the parking brake, when I try to reverse later, the transmission shifts with a thud (rough), the same thing happens on my civic, so I assumed it is a honda/Acura thing or maybe other cars do this as well. So I always stop, apply the parking brake then shift to 'park', seems to be ok this way.

These new 10sp ATs seem to have early teething issues. I'd definitely take it in, see if they can find anything, but if not, just chalk it up to the oddities of more and more operations being controlled electronically on cars nowadays.

I wouldn't be too concerned. If it happened while you were driving at speed, that would be more disconcerting.

I never hit the Park button when I've arrived at my destination. The Autostop shuts off the engine, and when I press the Park button the engine starts again. Unnecessary wear and tear. So I just press the Start/Stop button which automatically puts the car into Park. When in doubt I will set the Parking brake before, but usually after, hitting the Stop/Start button. For a steep driveway, probably best to set the Parking break before the Start/Stop button. I did more-or-less the same thing with previous cars.

Probably just a "glitch".

I do this as well, and I have my parking brake set to auto engage, so all I do is hit the start/stop button with my foot on the brake, then unbuckle my seat belt, and get out of the car.

It never occurred to me to just turn the car off to avoid the restart to park thing. Thank you for the tip!

To the OP, FWIW, mine has never shifted into Neutral on its own before. Hopefully that's something they can identify and correct for you.

I took it in last week for them to check it. Of course, like someone already said, they couldn't duplicate with no code and told me to just bring it back if it does happen again. Hopefully it's a one time thing. The only problem I had was that my salesmen and service manager from Vandergriff in Arlington, TX acted as though they had no clue about this issue.

I don't think anyone here has heard about it, either, really. And people here complain about everything, so it probably is just a one-time thing.

Mine went in to N by itself at a light as well. Nothing worked until I turned the vehicle off then on. Only happened once but nonetheless disconcerting. Had the limp mode in the rain issue as well. Towed in, checked codes, surprise, nothing.
