Oh my goodness, just read this thread. So sorry for your extreme misfortune, and hoping your wife and you make a complete recovery ASAP. Hope both of you can get lots of rest and recovery over the upcoming holiday season.
Don't know what your wife does for work, but please don't have her rush back. My wife had surgery (nothing to do with an accident) years ago and went back to work too soon and reinjured herself. Make sure you both take the time you need to be healthy again.
She is an RN at a local hospital, and supervises her dept. I won't rush her back to work, SHE will! BUT her employer (hospital) will require her to have a release back to work...I believe signed by one of their docs.
So, wife came home today from rehab....she is doing great!
Estimate of the damage repairs from the insurance adjuster came in today....without any tear down, which they will not do.....$40,000!!!!!! He agreed that it is a total loss. $40,000!

Wife and I continue to improve some every day. Sadly, due to the severity of my shoulder break, I will likely never be able to raise my right arm above the shoulder level.
Good news, we finally received the police report, and it clearly found fault with the van driver for running a red light, (he was cited) and also good news, it provided me with that driver's insurance info. When I called them, they said they were glad I called, as their insured had reported the accident to them, they knew there were other cars involved, and now they have my contact info. Hopefully there is enough insurance coverage there to pay the medical expenses of the many who were hurt.
Additionally, my insurance will be cutting me a check for over $51,000 for the totaled Corsair. They will be asking the at fault driver to reimburse them, an add the $500 deductible for me. The $51,000 is more than I expected.

And I agree with what you said - 15 years ago (or in a 15 year old car) you probably wouldn't be here telling this awful story. Glad you and your wife are okay.
At when point do you get an attorney involved. It pains me to watch these 'injury' attorneys on TV sucking the blood out of everyone, but they are there for a reason. If you have permanent injuries, as you described, an insurance is a fine, one time thing, but what about the future? Pain and suffering are real things, and gthe older you get the more real they become.
And....waiting to see what you replace your Corsair with!

Glad you're getting your money's worth back... Should be more since it's practically brand new.
Really hope there's another way around to fixing your arm a bit. I know it's rough at your age but, hopefully there's some joint exercises you can do at least to loosen it up.

Yeah...I have a basic dislike for attorneys, but sometimes they are necessary. Still considering how to deal with it as we move forward.

The wait is over. Yesterday, I drove home with a brand new RED 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Platinum FWD.
It is EPA rated at 36 mpg city and 35 highway, and it is even quieter than the Corsair. MSRP $51,876. The dealer experience was fabulous, no "market adjustment pricing", and they agreed to waive most of the added cost of the window tint, clear door edge guards and door handle cup protectors. NO hard sell on extended warranties or other nonsense in finance. Even got a $500 rebate for financing a small amount (which I will quickly pay off). I feel this was a good choice, considering the fuel economy, Toyota's history with Hybrids, and of course the expected high reliability and resale value.
Also, I'm not sure if I mentioned it before, but I am able too drive a bit now. It's a painful reach to many things with my right arm, but I am seeing more range of motion almost every day. The arm/shoulder still hurts quite a bit.

No it doesn't. I just went to the site and the final price of a Mach-E like mine only reflects the $2000 increase in MSRP that recently occurred. Dealers honor that price when it is officially ordered from the website, but the buyer has at least a 7 month wait to get it. Dealers are free (we are a capitalist country) to charge whatever they want on cars on their lot for those consumers that can't wait.
May be true for your area. The first pic shows "Dealer Selling Price will now replace MSRP." The second one shows the price for ordering my configuration with the $9995 markup.
10K markups, 4K markups, and so on. I wish these the dealerships every hardship they can get. Screwing people because they can. I bet when you trade that car in in a few years, your 'mark-up' will be accounted for in the trade price...not. 70K for an electric Mustang...unbelievable.

Try doing it with my ZIP 95661 and selecting the local dealer (Future Ford, Roseville). I just went through the process on my phone and get the same $10K markup.
How is the acceleration with the Highlander? Before I purchased the Mach-E, the Toyota Venza was number one on my list, until I actually drove one.
Not like the RDX! But I don't care, as I never used all the acceleration capability of the RDX.
Drove a Venza, it is a glorified RAV4, with a nicer interior and exterior, but same platform.
I have almost 300 miles on my first tank in the HH, and currently showing 37+ mpg on the display. Suites me just fine. I never race between stop lights, and I am also never the last one to the next light.
JB - just curious why you didn't replace your RDX with another RDX or replace your Corsair with another Corsair? Just taking the opportunity to drive different brands/models??

Definitely a good question. The RDX? Well I had enough teething pains... I felt like it was still in the beta test. The car I had was a 19 it wasn't real early I think it was purchased in January of 20 ...maybe December of 19. The infotainment was a hot mess. I got used to the touchpad but really prefer a touch screen. And so,when I had an opportunity to replace it...I decided that I wanted something a little bit quieter and the Corsair fit that bill. It happened to be right there at the right time at the right place.
Why did I not buy another Corsair? I was thinking about it. Went into the dealership... they had one that fit my needs. When my wife sat in the passenger seat and said "oh no this is too much like the car we just had a bad accident in". I said scratch that idea.
Beta test is right, Had more infotainment hoo ha just yesterday. But then again, first year new total redesigns are rife with that. The only nest gen new car I ever owned without any issues is our 2010 Lexus RX-350 which we still own. Anyway my 22 A-Spec Advance is in transit so it won't be long with all the tsb's done and then some other tweaks No complaints with the Infotainment either. Hoping for the best.....

A little update at 7 weeks from the accident, the bones in my wife's hand and her collar bone have not healed properly, and she had surgery yesterday on both. Out patient, with an ortho doc and anesthesiologist that she knows and trusts (as opposed to the ones at the trauma hospital were were taken by ambulance the day of the accident.) Surgery was at 4PM and she was home by 9PM. Slept well, and now has slings on both arms (a splint on the wrist) and some heavy duty pain meds for the next few days. This surgery should allow her to have full range of motion with her hand that would not have been possible if left alone.
I will be seeing this ortho surgeon on Monday for a second opinion on my shoulder, which the doc at the trauma hospital said I will never be able to lift that arm above the shoulder. I have been going to Physical Therapy and am gaining some improvements in range of motion.
In other matters, and much less important...I am not overly happy with the Highlander Hybrid. Most new cars I LOVE initially, not this one. I think I rushed to a decision because it was available, offered many of the features of "premium" brands, has the legendary Toyota reliability, and amazing fuel economy (36 city 35 highway...My first tank averaged 37mpg, second tank 38mpg) Fuel economy isn't everything! With the current car purchasing environment, I MAY be able to trade it for another in the near term and come out "OK" ... I am considering the 22 RDX Advance due to the numerous upgrades...quieter cabin, wireless Android Auto, seemingly less trouble-prone infotainment system, better road isolation, better drive mode control (yet still not user programable) etc.
JB - Wishing you and your wife good/better luck as you progress with alternate Drs. and specialists. My wife had shoulder surgery in early Dec and although it was planned, it's still a long road back. Has been doing PT for a few weeks and it's definitely up and down. She is definitely making progress and ultimately will be better off, but it definitely is ups and downs.
Regarding the Highlander - you need to do what is best for you and in this market, I bet you do absolutely fine if you decide to trade in for a new RDX. A 22 RDX Advance is on my radar to replace my wife's 16 RDX Advance.

I was also somewhat disappointed in the gas mileage on my '19 RDX Advance FWD.
I purposely didn't say why I am unhappy with the Toyota... LOL
OK.... Here goes.....I usually LOVE my new cars, I realized after about a week, that I don't love this one. A lot of little personal preferences, really. For the MSRP of $51,876 (perhaps the same as a '22 RDX Advance SH-AWD?) ... Lane centering and keeping is bad. It ping pongs around the lane causing me to "fight" with the wheel, very tiring...vs excellent centering on the RDX and our 2020 CR-V, and our totaled '21 Lincoln Corsair. It beeps when you get near a painted lane marker, AND when the painted lines stop, as in an intersection... I much prefer that it vibrate the wheel. I HATE this beeping and should have know better! Only way to turn off the beeping is to turn off the lane centering and lane keeping which I won't do! I want these safety features I paid for. Front doors often take more than one close, to actually close. Right front door makes a "loud" pop sound when first opened, when door is released from the latch. Others have reported this same thing, and some have had successful repairs at dealer and other have not.
Maybe I'm taking my frustrations about the accident, and the ongoing medical issues out on the Toyota?? It IS something I can do something about. It is just money.
The Good: It is a very quiet, comfortable riding vehicle, has a good (but NOT RDX quality) audio, better infotainment system than my '19 RDX had. (high quality 12.3" screen) Gas tank holds 17.1 gallons. I went well over 500 miles before filling it up both times I have filled it so far. It is very roomy, but it IS a much bigger car.

Width: RDX 74.8" vs Highlander RDX 76" (not sure if with or without mirrors)
Height: RDX vs 65.5" Highlander 68.1"
I am considering a '22 RDX Advance.....more to come.

Thanks. Just curious as we should be making a decision on a new car before the year is over (sooner is better) to replace an older Accord we have, so I like to hear feedback on cars, good or bad. It's interesting that you had an RDX that kept good centering on a lane....ours ping/pongs so bad I won't even use that feature.

Yea, from the tone of your post it appears you're ready for a switch. They have always said life is short. Well, for guys like us life is REALLY short. We deserve the best experience we can afford; cannot settle for less. My wife and I recently purchased two insanely priced custom made leather club chairs. Felt comfortable in the showroom, but when they arrived 4 months later they didn't feel right. Took them back to the showroom and ordered two more and these were an improvement. Bottom line is you and your wife deserve every little bit of happiness and the best experiences you can afford - especially now after what you two just went through. I say go right now, make an appointment at your Acura dealer and get yourself that shiny new 2022 Performance RED RDX Advance. You will not regret it!

My wife's surgery was NOT scheduled, it was added to the schedule by the surgeon as he wanted it done ASAP, but yeah, Covid has taken over much hospital capacity. It was good that her procedure was as an out-patient. @Vince D you make excellent points, and I tend to agree. I WILL want to drive a 22 Advance before agreeing to a purchase. I hope to make that happen this week, but inventory is very slim. Local dealer has one Tech, that is all, next closest dealer is 100 miles away. We have numerous appointments this coming week, follow up with docs, PT, etc. We'll see IF I can squeeze in a 200 mile RT trip and do a test drive of an Advance.
The RDX is not the perfect crossover, (that only exists in my mind) but it may come the closest to my preferences after the 22 update.
