Roof rails

No experience, but I have noted that Yakima have kits on their website.
Like you, I think that the RDX roof racks are extortion - to the point that it may well be a deal breaker if not other solution can be found.

Clamp-on kits are always an option, but they are likely to cause damage in my experience.
Unfortunately, I think you need to go down-market to more mainstream and/or outdoorsy models to get a standard OEM rack system that's worthwhile. RDX is more about style and sportiness. But its competitors in the "compact luxury SUV" market are no different.
I try not to think about how much I spent putting roof rack and hitch on this thing. Oh well.

Have you looked on eBay? I purchased my rails and crossbars from a dealership selling on eBay for less than $700 for both. Still unreasonably expensive but it's quite cheaper than the standard pricing. I happily used them every day last summer.
