Premium or Regular Fuel?
Premium or Regular Fuel?
I知 wondering how many on this forum use regular rather than premium and any advice on this? I知 trying to add a poll but not sure it is working. If not, just reply. Thanks much!
Per Owners Manual ----
FUEL for best performance:
Use of unleaded gasoline of 91 octane or higher is recommended.

- TOP TIER detergent gasoline where available.
- DO NOT use gasoline containing more than 15% ethanol.
- DO NOT use gasoline containing methanol
- DO NOT use gasoline containing MMT.
I use Sunoco 91, a top tier gas. I only use top tier, although I sometimes change octane, for no particular reason. Somehow, it just feels better on 91, and I get a bit better gas mileage, maybe 10%, but the price delta is greater than the mileage savings. But I usually do it anyway.
I have only used regular 87 octane, and am averaging 27 mpg over 14,000 miles of mostly suburban driving.
Remember, 91 octane is not required, just recommended, as has been written here in the past, and 91 is likely needed to justify the published 272 HP rating. Whatever the "reduced" HP is using 87 is just fine with me for the type of driving I do. If i was interested in the best 0-60 times, then I might consider using 91.
Make your own decision. Bottom line is you can use either...but not less than 87.

To me, the gas grade depends on hard you're pushing the engine. 'Pedal to the Metal' mean high boost and high combustion pressure - that warrants premium. Puttering around town, pressures are lower and premium isn't necessary. I use whatever grade my upcoming driving warrants.
