It's really ridiculous that after 3+ years this keeps randomly happening and Acura has no universal fix to stop it. Mine also, from time to time has this happen. I can't really tell that anything is happening, except on the screen.

The ridiculous part is if you hit reverse immediately after starting a car while infotainment is still booting, it will disable USB port until you reboot infotainment

And -- while apparently not a common complaint -- disable the USB port randomly on restart if it's in use on shutdown.

Its not random, will happen every time if you start car thats been sitting 10-15min and hit reverse immediately. I believe everyone has this issue. Maybe many hit reverse 5 seconds later after start,
at which point it will work

The fix is Acura needs to replace all the infotainment hardware with what’s installed in the 2022. The chance of that is sub zero.

I bet they could fix a lot of glitches with better software, but that also costs a lot of money to develop.

Sorry, but I need to really laugh at that. Over 3 years already and lots of folks still think better software is the answer.

We're talking about different issues. I don't know if selecting R before bootup will always cause USB to be disabled, but I do know it randomly displays the "no device" error even before selecting any gear. I always allow a short warm-up, and often start the car and look for a podcast to stream. When looking up to change source or begin driving, the "no device" error is sometimes displayed.

Its true, hardware is not the greatest in terms of speed, but we do not know if the issue with bugs is due to software or hardware, or both. A lot of times you can work around hardware bugs in software. You need talent and you need to spend a lot of money, maybe thats not what Acura wants to do
with their legacy system.

I have some of the same problems. Have you read TSB 21-031? It describes the issue and what Acura/Honda will do to fix it. The warranty on the issue has been lengthened too. These is a shortage of the MOST fasteners to fix the issue. I've been waiting for a month. 2020 RDX.

Just a quick update on the issue in the original post -- "Drive mode change unavailable".

I finally had the car in for an oil service and had them check this out. They replaced some connectors. This is what the work order says:

INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM - REPLACE FAKRA CONNECTIOR(S) S/B: 20-031 S/B: 21-009
2057 W93
1 91561-TA5-A11 CLIP, RR.
3 39817-TJB-AC0 HOUSING

Had the same tsb done for freezing, screen staying on when vehicle off, or randomly going completely black and couldn’t use rear cam or anything. Have a 10mm box wrench since they only fix I’ve found was to disconnect the battery since the system hard locks. I think most the issues we are having is cause the android software is so old 5.1.1. So hardware from 2014 and software from 2015. Running not enough memory causes the system to hang and crash. Plus they’re pushing it to do many other things and also CarPlay which is fairly resource intensive. Is like when having too many things open in an underpowered tablet. Same effect. The only real fix is updated hardware. Part is the reason the 22s have different hardware than the 19-21. Boot times are also quicker. Wireless CarPlay etc won’t work with the outdated system used in the previous years. Also sucks everything runs through the infotainment and can’t swap out. A 300 dollar aftermarket android headunit would run better and provide way more options. I wonder if they swap my infotainment or if I keep having issues if it would be the same current arm hardware or the Intel in the 22s

Me too. I don’t even use CarPlay. Just usb for music and nav on occasion and still get issues. Been ok after they replaced the connectors last week. But still get the boot up lag. Can be 30 seconds or 3 minutes. So that hasn’t changed
