I came across this article this morning where it unveils se spy shots of the upcoming 2022 model.

I like those exhaust tips.

I wonder if this new model would include reclining 2nd row, power folding mirrors (for US), or maybe the new fully digital cluster like the mdx. And i wonder if some of the new parts would be retrofittable.

I saw new ultrasound sensors in front for TJA function. Also like the square exhaust tips. The design change softens the sharp rear lights, and pulls the weight down visually.

The door mirrors look different, perhaps indicating power fold? I duuno.
I'm more interested in interior/infotainment/console changes

Looks very interesting for sure. My wife drives a 2016 RDX which was the year of the mid cycle refresh and has some good upgrades from the 2015.

Could still be for Canada market only. I'd love power folding mirrors here in the US.

Maybe they will improve better middle console like wireless charging and better cup holders! Digital cluster.

Really hope they update the wheel choices for the Advance. And, as a black interior person, I hope they add some exterior color choices with the black interior. Right now on the Advance, if you want black interior you can only get black, white, silver or gray exterior, no actual colors. Frustrating, Honda does the same thing. I've had black / black for the last 20 years. Really want an actual color this time around which may eliminate any Acura or Honda.

Not me. I might have paid extra if they were even available but adding them now in the 4th year of the Gen does me no good at all. So, I will continue to be consumed with bitterness, anger, hate and resentment of our neighbors to the north and hope that my fellow Americans continue to be deprived of power folding mirrors. Misery loves company.

I couldn't agree more. For some reason Acura puts their most hideous wheels on the top level trims. My 2016 Advance came with wheels I hated and replaced immediately. They've done the same for the gen 3. If I were to get a gen 3 I don't think I could live with the ones that come on the car.

No power folding mirrors means less chance for stuff to break down the road, so there is a plus 😀

I personally don’t see much difference in the spy photos.
I hope they push digital for those who love it lol. But if they allow you to build Advance with A spec would be a huge plus.

let’s see! The new NX is on its way. The RDX is almost 3 year old. Acura better adds some more features

they need to make this into a sleeker version of the mdx and they would be good!

Can you remind us what they did with the last gen mid-life cycle refresh

Still worth it. My tight ass parking spot needs it.

I would be more paranoid about the auto idle stop killing our starter motor. We should be allowed to turn that neglible gas saving feature off permanently.

Concerns me that they are still testing with camo on the car. I am waiting for the MMC to pull the trigger on getting one. Previous model years would come out sometimes June, or august for the coming year (June 2021 would release the 2022 model). Are they behind in development?
I don’t expect big changes. Most likely to look more like the mdx. My wish would be a merger of the Aspec and the Advance.
I also think Acura has a price issue. 2022 model will cross the $50k threshold. Will this scare customers? Acura has marketed the Rdx as a 10k cheaper option to all the other small luxury SUVs. Now that you hit 50k on the sticker, will you have a marketing issue? “Well the BMW is $59k, while the Acura is $50k, both are now 50k vehicles, what’s the difference?” Or will they be able to still say “our base model is still under 40k, far cheaper than competitors”.

With mostly only the front of the car covered, I would suspect only a minor face-lift to the light clusters, grill and maybe some of the tin.

Inside, who knows?

Agreed. I think we are going to see some adjustments to the rear bumper area and front end. We will probably see a digital cluster like the TLX and the ability to customize the driving experience. I think we'll see the Type S variant as well..but won't be available till 2022....which is when I'm trading in my 2020 Advanced probably to go with a Type S.

Are you saying the RDX competes with the X5? More like the X3, which is a $45-50k car.

Whatt? The MDX got the RDX treatment to make it sleeker.

I would have paid extra for power fold mirrors as well. We're lucky enough to be able to park our vehicles in the garage. And when my wife pulls her RDX into the garage she only has about a damn foot on both sides of the mirrors but somehow she still always ends up with an inch on one side and nearly two feet on the other side. I wish she could hit a button and fold both mirrors. I know someday she's going to come in and tell me she hit one of the mirrors pulling into or out of the garage.

That's a horrible video if there's a $59k X3 (M class?) and an RDX is in the mix. Not even a theoretical Type S RDX would cost that much!

Do you mind sharing the link to the video?

”Starting price” is always what companies hang their hat on for advertising. Jeep makes $60k Grand Cherokees but still gobbles up buyers in the $30-40k range.

But where is this $50k stuff coming from? Unless it’s a PMC at MSRP, no one should be paying $50k+ for their RDX.

As for the cammo, they’re gonna keep it under wraps until it’s announced/revealed. So I wouldn’t think too hard about it.

As a former RDX owner that’s looking to rejoin the flock NLT Aug 2021, the camo spy shots coupled w/ talk of late summer EOY model intro. timeframe has def. harshed my calm.

If I recall the Honda CR-V Touring model got wireless charging on its mid cycle update so it would not surprise me if the RDX might get it, if they figure out how to fit it in without a major modification to the interior design. Maybe they might change the entire center console. I would not expect to see much if any change in the main body design as that is a major expense building new dies and such for a lower volume vehicle like this. The plastic parts on the bumper and the tail pipe ends are easy enough to tweak and that is how Honda mostly handles mid-cycle updates. As for the dash...I would not risk a guess on that one. A major change there could be costly but who knows?

I like the new CR-V as it has been updated a lot since my last 2017 model. But, doesn't have the vented (and better made) seats with cooling or the two liter engine of the RDX. I could not go backwards on these!

Well said. I would bet that you are spot on!

Re: CR-V. My wife drives our 2020 CR-V Touring, which, like you said, does have the wireless charging. Again, as you said, there was a place to put it without major changes. I cannot see how Acura could add one to the RDX without a total redesign of the console. Every time I drive our CR-V, I really like it, but giving up the MUCH more comfortable and cooled seats would be hard....and the HUD. I guess Honda/Acura has that figured out pretty well, forcing buyers to Acura for those features, at least for now, as most do trickle down. Gen 6 of the CR-V is just around the corner, so it remains to be seen how Honda ups its game considering the CR-V is in the most competitive segment. The new Nissan Rouge offers a lot of features not available in the CR-V. (Not that I would buy a Nissan)

This is where I think Honda/Acura will lose as this "forced upgrade" to Acura is a finite game. Besides Nissan, other makes like KIA and Hyundai are already offering what we consider premium offerings in their non-premium cars. In the case of Hyundai, upgrading to Genesis gets you tangible luxury benefits like better fit and finish and not necessarily better technology already available in the Hyundai cars.

I think they have three options for the wireless charger placement without major redesign:

1) In the pass-thru under the shifter. Terrible ergonomics, but if CarPlay is wireless too then there's no reason to grab for the phone while driving.

2) Redesign the current phone cubby to have an incline so the phone lays longways at an angle against a charging pad. Dimensions might make this look forced.

3) Clip-in wireless charging pad that sits on top of the current phone cubby. Pad would be ok size for regular phones, but too small for "max" phones, which Acura might not care about. BMW offered something like this for their arm rest storage area.

I remember when I was shopping for a car in Dec 2017, the Gen 3 RDX was not out yet. I test drove the 18 RDX (Gen 2) back to back with the 18 CR-V (Gen 5) While the RDX was somewhat quieter, and more powerful (V6), it didn't offer some of the amenities that the (new for 2017) CR-V did. In fact, the CR-V Touring (top trim) was quite impressive at its price point. That 2018 RDX was based on the Gen 4 CR-V (from 2011) a generation behind the current CR-V, if I am not mistaken. I had never driven, or even been in an RDX prior, but I was surprised that the RDX didn't offer some of the things the CR-V did. I wish I could remember what they were now...LOL Perhaps the kick to open/close tailgate was one? Dunno, but that was a requirement for me. The more powerful engine was NOT important to me, especially at the price difference. I bought the 18 CR-V, which I traded a year later for the 19 RDX. I was desperate to get out of the car I was driving at the time, and couldn't wait for the Gen 3 RDX. My point? The segment that the CR-V plays in is a much bigger and important one for Honda/Acura so they need to, and do, incorporate new features there first, before the higher end, lower volume products. I would not be surprised if the RDX doesn't get a wireless charging pad, a seemingly low cost upgrade, until Gen 4, unless it doesn't take significant reworking to accomplish.

We use these to charge our phones at home. They work in the USB in the car.

A RDX was behind me today and based on the new TLX and MDX, I know exactly what Acura is trying to do with the front of it. Right now, the RDX has a "flat" or i would say a bit "Lazy" grill and light. Acura will sharpen that grill, light and bumper. For the rear we all know, they will integrate the chicane lights.

I hope you're right Tony but even more so that they incorporate those changes into the '22 model & 'intro it before the end of Aug. as well.

I like those exhaust tips.
I'm the opposite on the tips - I hate square tips and love round tips. Maybe it's because I associate square tips with fake tips (like on Lexus') but for me, round tips are the way to go. The A-Spec tips are great though I wish they were more pointy.

I think Acura has been on a June/July schedule with new RDX releases, but COVID may have changed that.

Oh you mean the 2021 Q5? RDX 2021 is available now too...

Q5 was too small for my needs, but if it works for you, it seems like a nice car.
