Is it just me that likes the RDX?

I keep hearing so many negative aspects of the RDX on this forum. Is it just me that thinks the RDX is awesome? I see people trading them in because of infotainment, transmission, and brake issues. The only thing that I find quirky is the infotainment but it is not hard to use. I am not having any issues with slow infotainment start up issues or blackouts. I also don't have any brake issues or rough shifting transmission.. I actually find it very smooth and satisfying! I'm not getting these reviews. I feel like the RDX is one of the best vehicles I have ever owned!

if you go onto many car forums..you would think that vehicle sucks....as many just go onto car forums to post about an issue they are having....so it may sound like a lot of people are having issues...

Go on to any forum when a 'brand new from the ground up' model comes out and you'll see the same stuff there too. The RDX is a great vehicle, don't let the negative comments push you away. People mostly join forums just to complain.

People don't prioritize in their posts. Every minor gripe goes to 11. There are some things I don't like and there are some disappointments. All of which I knew about before I pulled the trigger. I use an android phone but I wouldn't buy a car just because it has android auto. Or, not buy it because it doesn't. My life doean't revolve around my phone.

95% of what I do while I'm in the car is drive it. So, that's what matters to me most. Ride, handling, performance, etc. No other car I drove in the price range came close. Some had more "stuff" for less money but those things don't matter as much to me. If a lot of stuff matters most to you, you can get a lot more stuff for a lot less money and the car will still get you to work on time.

I am loving my RDX and have a thread talking about all the things I like about it. As for trade-ins, I don't count the guy who wasn't smart enough to figure out what size vehicle he needed. That was more an admission of stupidity than a knock on the car. Another person that traded in, went for the MDX so it appears that person wanted bigger as well. There was one that seemed to have a genuine lemon but that's it.

I second that emotion.

Since the last update, my infotainment system has worked correctly, and my 2 big gripes about the nav (inability to zoom and could not send destinations to car) have been corrected. Carplay works fine for navigation with either Waze or Google Maps, my Amazon Music streams well and sounds great. I drove round trip from NY to Naples FL, 1300 miles each way, and its over-the-road performance and behavior is exemplary. (I did a write-up of that trip.) I would like another 2-3 mpg across the board, but that is a tiny thing compared with everything else it does great. Plus, I am using regular gas with no ill effects.

Remember there is no such thing as a "Perfect Automobile", the decisions are about which "Compromises" you can live with and what are your priorities.

I'm glad you're loving your RDX! Regardless of what problems are posted, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if I were in the market for a new CUV at the time!

I only use the basic infotainment like satellite radio most of the time. I probably would never even use the Waze or CarPlay.

Vehicles are just a product of engineering. One thing I learned about engineering is it is always about compromise rather than perfection. You can make a car that rides as smooth as glass but it won't handle worth a damn. You can make a car that accelerates like a rocket shit but your MPG will be terrible. Everything about a vehicle design is about compromise, priorities, and balance.

Very very true! I love the vehicle. It's the quirks, like any other vehicle that employs people to complain. Drive a Ferrari someday, you'll find issues....
I test drove rovers, Audi, Porsche, Jag, Lexus, and the rdx all in the same week. Rdx was the winner. They all had their quirks. And I consider over priced maintenance costs a quirk too....lol

My first preferred build to replace my 535i was the 540i. Equipped with all of the features I wanted came to ~$70K. That was a no.

The X3 with all the features was generally unobtainable, the one car within 100 miles that had it was a bit over $60K. The 2.0 X3 drives, IMO, only very slightly better, but the iDrive infotainment system is better. OTOH, you have to pay for carplay. Nothing within 5K matched my RDX, and it was closer to 10K to get about the same overall feeling.

The car seems to be selling very well so I'd say you are in the norm. This car not being a enthusiast car I don't see many posts of substance other than the complaints. I came from an enthusiast car to this and their forums were full of different type of builds and experiences. What experience can we post about? "I drove from one place to another and got there safely and in tons of comfort"?
This is a very nice car for the price. Really not much else to say beyond that, unless you have an issue, and apparently there have been a few.

My wife commutes in our RDX Advance so I usually only get to drive it on weekends, as I did yesterday. Each time I am thoroughly impressed with it. It is engaging to drive and doesn't accelerate and handle like an SUV. It's polished but does not envelope you in a cloud, which is fine with me. The stereo can make any trip a real pleasure when a song you like comes on, and I am a big fan of the head up display. I thought it would be only an amusing gimmick, but I appreciate seeing the vehicle speed, the speed limit, and the name of the song playing when I switch stations displayed on the windshield,

Count us among the fans.

Well said, definitely a balancing act. Make it too nice and it becomes expensive.....etc. There also comes into play the politics of pricing. I.e that magical 30k or 50k threshold....etc.

We have over 13k miles on ours already. I have posted here about several issues I have had with my Advance - limp mode 1 time, infotainment screen frozen 1 time, the HUD and nav directions not matching in all instances after the latest software update, a few other minor issues. While the instance of limp mode does concern me, thankfully it hasn't happened again in 5k miles. But even with the issues, I still love driving this car, and as of now do not regret purchasing it.

Agreed, the price is another constraint. How much a vehicle costs will dictate how good it can be made. Of course, there are other factors such as paying for the name. Still when designing a car how much it costs versus how many features it has is another engineering compromise.

We love our RDX Aspec....(coming from BMW back to Acura)....we shopped the X3, the GLC, the Q5, the Lexus.....no 4 cylinder suv came close for the price. Going up to 6 cylinders gets into a totally different animal. And. Huge price increase.
This vehicle drives like a dream and has been problem free....two months into a three year lease. Let’s see after a couple of years.

Ditto on the positives. We are 6 months in and zero issues. Love the way it (A Spec) handles and accelerates. Gas mileage could be 2-3 MPG better, might like touch screen (vs touchpad) a little better but no big deal. Was thinking today, the graphics on the infotainment screen could be better. I say that after my neighbor just bought a 2019 E63 AMG and the graphics (colors, design, etc) were far nicer---more color varied, better screen layout and so on. Sure, it's an 85K car, but graphics design of the screen doesn't really cost more car-to-car.

I've been checking out the Kia Telluride forum. Not a single issue or complaint so far. It's not 1 or 2 minor issues with the RDx, it's a whole list of problems and annoyances I've dealt with, and many others with similar build quality issues.

No issues here for me either. Only had it for a month though. HAd my 2004 TL for almost 15 years. Worry free besides the normal maintenance stuff. That too was a first-year redesign. Hoping for the same reults with the RDX.

I love mine as well. Purchased in Sept '18 and it has been a blast to drive. Sold my '08 TL (which I loved) to buy the RDX. No regrets whatsoever.

I can understand your frustrations, I'd be beyond pissed if my new car was having so many issues too. For what it's worth, the Telluride is not on a new platform, none of the electronics are new, the transmission isn't new, the only new thing is the engine. Whereas the RDX is brand new brand new. Electronics to platform to transmission...etc.

I'll pile on as another very happy Advance AWD owner. Just over 3000 miles and I can't wait to get behind the wheel. I've owned each generation of RDX. They've all been good. But the 2019 is in a class of its own. I won't catalogue all that I like yet again--but--the reasons I bought it have all delivered as hoped. New SH-AWD, sound system, upgraded interior, more luxury ride in Comfort, improved handling and driving experience...somebody stop me!!

I have over 15,000 miles on mine, purchased right out of the gate at the end of June last year. I've had infotainment misery at times, but now I only get an occasional "screech" in the middle of a USB tune once in a while. I have to admit that I just found out about the "limp mode" stuff and that's a bit of a worry, but it's never happened to me so far.

All in all, I still love the car, and really the only issues for me have been infotainment. The original D.1.0.4 wasn't too bad, the D.1.0.7 update was miserable, and the newest D.1.1.2 isn't bad at all. I am hoping the next update fixes the screeching once and for all and all is well.

I also now hope that whatever is doing the limp mode stuff is discovered and fixed. That's not good.

Almost the the same feeling here. Only issue I have is pull out usb stick and plug back in time to time. Using Bluetooth and play songs on the phone could minimize this issue. Rare have issue using radio, maybe 1 time through 6 months ownership. Limp mode story sounds scary, and hopefully Acura find out the root cause and fix it asap. Might be a "software" issue again, and could be fixed through ECU update. Other than mention above, couldn't be happier about the car, and will have no hesitation to buy it if I have to make the decision again.

Absolutely gorgeous!!!! That is one of my favorite color combos and most likely what I would go with (if I can't get Silver on Red).

Thank you! This was my one and only choice. I wanted no other color. The only thing I hate is the dealer put the lighter tint on the front but I am the kind of person who likes the back to match the front. In Florida, I know that this is a legal issue but I will take my chances by matching the front to the back.

No, it isn’t just you. This RDX is a great vehicle. It is in a way a pretty good example of engineering art and good science too. Yes there are some deficiencies, but there are no machines without them, the comment you hear from many of us on this blog. It has this unique balance of real sporty performance, off road stamina, breakthrough engineering elements ( yes, I think shots calling infotainment system is one of them), and overall good care on driver needs. This machine can keep you learning new techniques, if you are open to it. Enjoy the synergy!

I LOVE it, it's going to keep looking fresh forever! It also makes all the black accents POP on the A-Spec and so aggressive with those gun metal grey wheels! I am with you, I like the front tint to match the rear too! You have excellent taste if I can say so!
