Invoice Price on Acura RDX

On the Autotrader listing under "price breakdown" it clearly states that the MSRP (which would already include destination) for this specific vehicle is $44495.00. It also indicates that this vehicle is diamond white, which the Acura website says is not an extra cost color. So the discount (if there aren't any surprises looming) is actually $1112.00, which is not out of the realm of possibility for a front wheel drive A-Spec. I say that based on some of the other posts I've seen on here where people have shared what they paid for their new RDX's. And again, this $1112.00 discount may or not even be a true discount depending on what other "fine print" the dealer may have that might not have to be disclosed in an Autotrader ad.

If you scroll down the page of the link you shared from Autotrader, it says the MSRP is $44495.00, not $44945.00. And if you go to the Acura.com website and build the vehicle, it comes out to....$44495.00 for a FWD A-Spec RDX with any of the no extra cost colors (and Diamond White is no extra cost on a 2019 A-Spec). So based on the MSRP in the link you shared as well as the Acura.com website, the discount (at a sale price of $43383.00) is $1112.00.

I stopped by a Costco in So Cal on the way home today. One of the cars that had in front of the store as part of their auto sale program was a BMW X3. The sticker price was approx $45,000 and they were showing a discount of over $4,500. With these types of discounts being offered on the highly rated X3, the prices for the RDX should be dropping soon.

Adding those features will drive the price up considerably. In my view, the X3 represents the new RDX's chief competition. A worthy competitor at that.

At that price, it sounds like a bare bones X3 to me. Meaning no sunroof, no heated seats, no adaptive cruise, no satellite radio.

On the BMW website you can configure an X3 with the "convenience tier" which includes a panoramic sunroof, LED headlights, keyless entry, Sirius XM, and heated seats (separate $500 option), for $45k.
No adaptive cruise, though, but still - I wouldn't call that "bare bones".

To configure an X3 similar to the RDX Advance (although I couldn't find ventilated seats on the (terrible) BMW configurator), adds up to nearly $58k when I try (see attached).

The sticker is pricey on the X3, but I've done the same configuration with the USAA buyers guide (including with ventilated seats, which is easier to find on the USAA guide) and it comes down almost $10k to about $49k. That puts it within shouting distance of the RDX. I talked to a few dealers informally who implied that they would play ball at that price. The X3 is definitely a competitor from a pricing standpoint to the new RDX until the RDX price comes down (presumably at year's end).

A fully loaded BMW or Audi will always cost more than a similarly-equipped Acura. Not too surprising especially considering Acura's emphasis on being 'value-luxury' - the Germans, not so much.

I'm in the DC area and after I submitted that USAA result several dealers reached out ready to play ball at that price. The issues are (1) they don't tend to have that exact build on the lot (that's a problem with a lot of configured BMWs), and (2) I'm just not ready to buy yet as I have several months left on my lease. Perhaps once I showed up at the dealership, they wouldn't have been as accommodating. Who knows? I will go find out at the end of year before I commit to the RDX (which remains my front runner).

Also, a quick cars.com search shows several X3's selling for $6-8k below MSRP, pre-haggle. Examples:

There are two ways of looking at this: one is feature match pricing, and the other is what I would call value match pricing. Would an X3 with all the Advance features price close? No. Would the price of a current Advance get you in an acceptable X3, and make the X3 a good value? I think so. Could you get an acceptable (value) X3 for the price of a Tech? That I doubt.

Another thing to consider is that maintaining and repairing german cars after warranty is over will cost more money down the road. This is especially true for people who like to keep cars for 10 years.
