Interior Space Issue

I picked up my 2020 A-Spec SH-AWD. Overall, I am very happy with the ride, with the exception of storage space on the interior. It seems like the center console, map pockets and glove box are tiny. Can you chime in and let me know where you guys put your change, pens, umbrellas, glasses, etc. I may have been spoiled with my last car with all the compartments.

Plenty of space for me, coming from a smaller passenger car previously. That space underneath the infotainment (where the lighter socket is) is spacious. There's also a compartment in the back of the cupholder, lift up the armrest to access it. The trash compartment on the door also has room for waterbottles, small umbrellas, etc...

I am happy with the available space. My wife gets the glove box, I get the armrest well, and we have plenty. I wish the behind the seat back ‘compartments’ were better. On all my prior cars I could keep two fold-up umbrellas behind the passenger seat. In the RDX, I can’t.

Beford purchasing my RDX, I was looking at the Porsche Macan. Now that car had some tiny storage spaces! I find the a RDX space to be smallish but adequare.

Yeah I guess it depends what you’re coming from. If you used to drive a Tahoe or something, you’re going to be disappointed. But overall I think between the door storage areas and center console, it’s got pretty good space. I even have a vacuum cleaner stored in my armrest because now that I have nice leather, I feel the need to clean up every crumb (and I have a six year old, who drops a lot of crumbs). In my door storage I have an emergency radio, glass breaker and a other emergency tools. In the back I have other emergency equipment. Umbrella storage is a Little tricky but can fit my compact one in the door or under the drive selector.

I will say the behind-the-seat storage is pretty useless though, with those hard covers.

I put one fold up umbrella in each rear door compartment. I prefer to have two behind the passenger seat, but that is not to be in this car. One must endure what one must endure.

Yeah, it's a downsize from my previous Pilot, but I get way less seasick in the twists and turns.

For things that don't need immediate and/or routine access, the cubbies under the rear cargo area floor are fairly capacious. I might put the emergency radio and tools in that category, but YMMV. As a northerner, spare hat, mittens and emergency blanket fall into this category.

I find the shallow glove box to be a bit annoying. It needed to be about a half inch deeper to properly hold the paperwork I kep there. As for the center console, I went with 2 levels of storage. I have a small plastic box that contains items I want accessible, but rarely need, and then on top of that I have an uncovered plastic tray for things I use often. If I want something in the bottom I just lift out the whole top tray.

what are you all doing with the space under the gear shift column? I can’t quite figure out what to put there other than a small box of tissues.

I don’t keep anything there, but I put stuff there on a drive, like my hat, or sunglass case. Stuff I bring in and take out when I go.

Phone sometimes, on short drives. Keys and wallet on long drives. Umbrella occasionally. Gloves now that it's winter in the NE.

I didn’t think of that, I normally toss my hat and gloves in the back seat and then have to hunt and stretch for them when I want them.

Under the shifter: sunglasses/glasses case, softie change bin for my convenience store Diet Coke fix, chapstick that rolls around and bugs me unless I put it in the bin, pen, hat ( sometimes ).

The change bin ( one of the most useful things I ever learned about on a car forum ):

Amazon Amazon

In the door pockets: lens cleaner and cloths for glasses and windshield, sunscreen, dog park poop bags ( empty ), packets of salsa for emergencies ( fast food... ). Water bottle usually goes in rear door pocket or rear center armrest, and bicycle chain lube and cloth in a ziplock freezer bag. ( I tried chapstick for a dry chain once, and that didn't go so well ).

Center console: mostly napkins and OTC med bottles, hiking and biking snack bars. More of the same in glove compartment, but yeah, that thing is shallow.

Reaching for hats and gloves on the back seat keeps me limber. I need that. But not while driving.

I keep my cheat sheets there for some of the infotainment voice commands I use less frequently and for Carplay apps I use. I also have a printout of the Sirius XM stations for those not a favorite.. I don't put anything there that would excite a peeper looking into the car to take the next step to extract.

Less space than 2nd gen

I agree there is less usable space in the front. I had to purge a lot of stuff.

I put umbrellas in the pockets on the back of the front seats.

There is a lot of room under the back floor for stuff.

I keep these in a pinned Apple Note for quick reference, this way no storage is required.

Shelf

What do use the open shelf for ? My daughter says it would be good for a women's purse. I suggest a bag of chips.
