Was given a 2022 MDX as a loaner

My RDX was in the shop for two days while some warranty work was done. We were given a brand new (14 miles on it) 2022 redesigned MDX as a loaner. Both my wife and I decided we like the RDX more.

MDX pros:
- All digital dash has a digital speedometer.
- 3rd row seating/more space.
- Wireless charging pad worked well.
- Seats felt softer/more comfortable.
- Memory seat adjustment for passenger seat.
- independent front/rear climate control.

MDX cons
- Too big. Could barely fit it in the garage and parking at the store was annoying.
- V6 engine felt slow, probably due to heavier vehicle as well.
- Terrible gas mileage. We were getting 14mpg freeway.
- Small side mirrors made parking a chore.

A lot of the pros we didn't care about, which is why we went with the RDX to begin with.

The interior of the +22 MDX is a huge step up from the 3rd Gen MDX. The new MDX interior is more of a baby step compared to the +19 RDX already updated design. Some folks are seeing city mpgs in the 2nd gen 07-13 MDX range of 14-19 mpg so far (+4500lbs, larger/wider/heavier tires, 290hp 3.5L having to work harder). A few also commented on maxing out the space in the garage also. It might come down to towing 3500-5000lbs and more room for 5-7 passengers would be a reason to upgrade from the RDX.

I saw one on the highway yesterday and was underwhelmed, looks-wise. The RDX was much more recognizable/fresh when it was new.

The RDX is definitely the more nimble, sportier car. I love my RDX more even after seeing the new 2022 MDX. I'm looking forward to moving to a Type-S RDX one day.

That was how I felt about the 3G Pilot, which I originally considered before getting the RDX. Coming from a 1st Gen Pilot, I fell the 3rd Gen was too much vehicle. It was about 8" longer LOA, 4" wider, lower with less ground clearance and less efficient interior space. I hardly ever used the 3rd row which is a joke anyway in all these vehicles.

The RDX is more to my current lifestyle.

I have, from time to time, looked at the MDX. Each time I ride in one I have the same thought: Its quiet and smooth with lots of room. Next thought is: This thing is WAY TOO BIG!. With just the gal and the dog our RDX is plenty big for me and I like how it drives. It fits in the garage just fine and does all we need. I am holding on to my beloved RDX for now!

That's an odd choice for a loaner:

1) They ran out of RDX loaners?

2) That "loaner" MDX that they are allowing customers to put miles on can easily sell for MSRP or close to it.

I thought the same thing. It could be (in fact I hope it is) that it's a brilliant dealer who knows that some number of people driving in a new MDX loaner are going to end up buying one because they fall in love with it, probably enough to make it worth taking the depreciation when they eventually sell the loaner as a CPO.
