This should never happen.

I have the same issue with both Park and Drive buttons. Will send pictures in next couple of days.

Just a hypothesis but those with peeling letters - do you use hand sanitizer when you get in the car and then engage the R/D while your hands are still wet with the sanitizer? One time I was using the sanitizer after getting gas and it got me thinking about this thread and the alcohol in sanitizer as the reason for deteriorating letters. Just a thought.

And....now mine are starting to go. So far the 'S'. For something in a place that by default is going to get a fair amount of contact and wear, this is a pretty poor design/selection of materials.

Just out of curiosity, how many miles are on your RDX?

Also, is this gear selector piece easily removable and replaceable?

It's a 2019 and there are 11,000 miles on it. I have been the driver 99% of the time, and my wife has been driving it over the past month, a lot. I mention this because of the comments about lotion (wife), hand cleaner, assume alcohol based (wife), and wonder about wife's fingernails (ummm...wife). There has not been a mark on those shift letters until she started driving it.

Doesn’t matter if you use lotion or not. May speed it up. But will happen regardless because they’re painted on. Any other manufacturer has a laminate over or it’s built in. You have to open the whole center console to replace the switches. Probs some sort of model paint may work. Trying to find something. Dealer basically says sorry about your luck

Blame it on the wife :-) as I have a 2019 with 20k miles and my shift buttons still look like new.

Yeah I’ve got some scratches behind the door handle that I’m blaming on the wife…

Has anyone tried using the clear plastic stickers that are pre-cut to fit over the gear selector buttons?

I actually bought some recently, and haven’t had a chance yet to see how they work/fit. I’m not sure if this would be worth doing or not.

Because some have had a different experience at their dealer with the scratching buttons', here is mine.
The Henderson NV dealer said "Acura is aware of the issue with these buttons and has offered a one time replacement"..so that is getting done tomorrow. In the meantime I have ordered the button covers available on E-Bay, and hopefully they don't look too crappy and protect in the future.

Also, complained about the squeaking brakes. Under TSB, they replaced all pads and rotors, front and rear.

Also, advised them of the battery going dead when updating infotainment software and radar detector. They said the battery (3 yrs, 3 mos old) did not pass tests and put a new one in.

All-in-all, a good 'warrenty' day I guess.

Tried fine tip white paint marker and doesn’t work well. Had to remove after. The paint they use flakes off and my d/s and park looks bad. The p starting to look like an F. Acura said sorry about your luck

Well, that sounds exactly like others experience, which is kinda all over the board. My experience, as noted, was supposedly a 'one time deal'. Mine didn't happen until after 3 years, and coincidentally after my drove it (she never does). Some have said it is hand lotion or that those alcohol wipes/bottles. She uses both a lot, I use neither, so I guess it fits with that theory. Regardless, it is a crappy design/material issue. I saw as others posted there experience, but did not think it would happen to me, until it did. Once it starts, it looks badf, and zi assume is only going to get worse. I don't know how Acura dealers are all over the board in their response. I could not imagine what it would it would cost to pay for that replacement, and if it happened once, it's going to happen again. I think that is one I would pass on to Acura corporate. I have not gotten my EBay button covers yet, and am curious what they will look like.

I have 64,000+ miles on my 2019 A-Spec and the D/S and P and the rest still look new. I am the only one who drives this car, and I don't use hand cream!

Same with my 2020. It is a shame, though, that Acura would use materials that deteriorate if you use hand cream/sanitizer (or whatever) on a part that is required to be touched.
