EZ pass location

Where are owners mounting their ez pass so it doesn’t block the camer behind the rear view mirror and interfere with the LKAS and CMBS?

You can't really block the camera by placing something on the windshield from the inside, the camera is inside that big black box at the top middle of the windshield facing out. Are you using a chip sticker or a transponder box? I dont have a vehicle with camera aided driving assists, but when I had the chip sticker, it was recommended to be placed at the center top of the windshield (right where the camera box is), but the transponder box could be almost anywhere on the windshield inside, some of my friends had theirs at the bottom left corner of the windshield. Since toll passes are Radio Frequency transponders, it should not interfere with the LKAS/CMBS camera since it is optical combined with a RADAR behind the Acura badge on the front grill.

I keep my FasTrak pass in the subglass holder and just hold it while going through toll. If I was to mount it I’d mount it behind the rear view mirror on the left side since the box for the LKAS camera is on the right side.

In my TLX I put my TexasTag in the sunroof. But it is flat. Seems to work fine.

It’s a transponder box. Ok I’ll have to check the exact spot the camera is in. From the manual it states that any dirt or cracks, or stuff on the window can cause the system to not work due to visual interference. I suppose if it’s out of the sight line then it’s fine.

Ill try the left side...I haven’t looked exactly where that camera is yet.

I mounted mine to the left of the mirror housing on the section of glass with the black dots; same as I did with the TLX. That keeps it relatively invisible from the outside. It doesn't block your view or the camera and it works just fine.

EZ Pass will send you new clear Velcro-style mounting strips for free if you need new ones.

I don’t like those Velcros they give you. Man, those things bond so strongly, they basically become a permanent part of your windshield.

And frankly (IMO, of course), they don’t look so nice, especially from the outside.

I like these better — I’ve had it for so long, I don’t even remember where I got it from. I thought from Amazon, but I couldn’t find it on my Order HIstory...

Anyway, it has a suction cup thing (so portable) and just looks nice and discreet (compared to being stuck with Velcros onto the windshield looking all naked and exposed. LOL

Not a major issue, but, yes, on a very rare occasion (I mean I can't remember the last time it happened), I found it on a front seat when I got back to my car on an extremely hot scorcher of a day. You have to remember I've had this holder maybe 5-6-7 years and it really hasn't been a problem to the point that I was ever wishing I had those Velcros instead.

I live in Maryland and we frequently have heat spells that spell "Arizona" and "Texas" backwards...lol...and this thing holds up pretty well, I would say.

interesting alternative. I don’t mind the Velcro through. I’ve never had an issue getting them off the windshield with just my fingers. I actually ordered a new transponder anyway since mine is 10 years old and nearing end of life. The new ones are like 1/4 of the size.

I'll have to call EZ-Pass Maryland tomorrow and ask about a new transponder like the one you ordered. I read in a news article the state will be replacing older transponders for free. Thanks for giving me the idea.

If if I get a smaller-sized one, the hunt will be on for a holder like the one I have since I don’t like the Velcros.

I have the smaller, wedge-shaped transponder.
It's completely hidden behind the black dots to the left of the mirror.
That holder is hideous.

We live in Texas but summer in the GTA area of Toronto. Our Texas chip thingie is just to the right of the camera/mirror, while our 407 transponder box is on the left side on the dots.

The next owners of our vehicles gain two Velcro strips, while the 407 people are happy to mail us new ones to our Texas home for the next car.

In 2018, how come toll road administrations can’t switch to chip patches? Oh wait, they charge me $20 plus taxes per year to “rent” this little box with outdated technology. Steady income..

Maryland (Gov Hogan to be specific) has gone all in to reduce tolls all over the state and getting rid of E-ZPass fees, such as making transponders free to new enrollees and replacing older ones at no cost. The "account maintenance fee" is gone now, too.

Actually we have a new governor now and he fought the state legislature because he thought the state budget was TOO LOW!

Hey, money is no problem when you're spending other people's money.

Also not a problem until you run out of other people’s money. Hey, why go bankrupt all by yourself —let’s all get bankrupt together!

So today I received my new replacement E-ZPass transponder Gov. Larry Hogan sent to me for free. I like the smaller profile / form factor. Also ordered the holder with suction cups from Amazon. The suction cup holder I’ve been using for the older and bigger transponder has worked very well for me over the years.
