According to the policy, GEICO will pay the repair facility directly for covered claims, and you can choose any licensed shop, including a dealer. All you need to do is call GEICO before the repair. then geico examiner will determine if a physical inspection of the vehicle is necessary.
And I think the major benefit of mechanical breakdown insurance is that it covers all parts and systems, not just the specific list of items covered by AcuraCare.

Bring/tow your car in - have diagnosis done and find out cost. At this point you are on the hook for x hours of labor for diagnostic time. Contact GEICO and GEICO will determine if a physical inspection in necessary. Wait who knows how long for a determination. Say the repair is authorized without physical examination - my guess is the Dealer is not going to let the vehicle leave without payment. If a physical examination is needed, your car sits while you wait.
I'm not saying it won't work or is a good or bad policy (may even be better coverage as you eluded to) - just saying AcuraCare is so much easier that's all.

Understood, but there is time, effort and energy expended in doing so.

I agree with you. I did buy the HondaCare for my Honda Pilot, but Honda/Acura vehicles are so reliable that I haven't had any opportunity to use my HondaCare within the 8-year/120,000-mile coverage. So, I'm trying a different approach with my RDX.

We had an AcuraCare extended warranty on our 07 MDX and we made out as we had some expensive repairs. We also had an AcuraCare warranty on my 08 TL-S and never used it. Insurance - you only need it when you need it.
I have not personally used him but others have raved about Bob Leab @ Hyannis Honda for OEM service contract pricing. I just found this link looking for his name - https://hyannishondaservicecontracts.com/contact.php
As already mentioned some folks have been happy Curryacuracare.com as well.

I got quotes from Curry and Hyannis for my new 23 RDX and Hyannis was about $100 cheaper for the D80 plan (8 years, 100k, no deductible).
Having just had a car with almost $7,000 transmission repair at 44k I am definitely considering AcuraCare for my new ride 😊

What vehicle did you have a $7K transmission repair done on? At 44K on the odometer, I'm surprised it wasn't covered under the powertrain warranty. I believe (not positive) many manufacturers cover to 100K nowadays, no??

It is the 2018 Murano I drive now. I was really lucky that this happened with just under 2 months left on the powertrain warranty~! The CVT is definitely a weak point in the Nissan and the problem is they do not repair them - just replace them. So, took a month to get a new one. I have heard of people going through two CVTs in under 70k, so not really wanting to take the risk long-term... Also, it was a great excuse to trade it in (and up) for the new RDX.
