Dealer Stock - FWD vs SH-AWD

My two local dealers in NC have a lot more of FWD in stock compared to SH-AWD. When do you think Acura will respond to higher than expected demand for SH-AWDs and start manufacturing more of those? Maybe they are directing the SH-AWDs to the colder climates and sending more FWD to the south? Or are the dealers here asking for more FWDs?

I too am in NC and while at first they did not receive any SW-AWD models, it seems now the inventory at my dealer is pretty split.

I often check the website of the dealers near me in a northern suburb of NYC, and none of them has had an FWD car that I saw.

I just checked my fav dealer again, he has 59 2019 RDXs on inventory, all SH-AWD, some are there, and some are listed as ‘coming soon’, but not an FWD among ‘em.

Just FYI.

I'm in socal and this is exactly what two dealerships told me. My local dealerships have 1 or 2 SH-AWDs and the remaining are FWD. I put a deposit down for a white A-SPEC red interior SH-AWD and the ETA is 2-3 months.

I believe dealers can order the cars they want. As such, if they have a lot of FWD, it is because they ordered them.

Heck here in GA they don’t get it. Acura makes SH-AWD as a performance feature, and then sells it like a traditional AWD system as if we on,y need it in the snow. Someone please fire the Acura marketing folks and then get more SH-AWD in the pipeline even in the South. And with the price advantage Acura holds over their competition make it standard.

7 dealers 'near' to me have 42 in stock or in the pipeline - only 1 FWD.

It’s rare to see FWD in the north. I guess I’d be upset here if that’s all we had.

I am getting super frustrated! I live in southern California and according to my dealer there are only 4 vehicles that match my specs within the entire state (i.e. majestic black pearl, ebony interior, SH-AWD & Advance). I have been doing my own research of inventories & he seems correct. He offered to locate one for me but to pay full MSRP plus any delivery charges. I actually agreed to it but when I showed him my CarMax appraisal offer for my 2015 Jeep Summit that was $3000 more than his offer; he lost all interest in the deal. So he expected to get paid full MSRP plus me paying any delivery charges and lowball my trade-in by $3000 which he wants to do the deal. UFB.

He is hedging you really want the vehicle. Were you showing much excitement/passion towards the car? They pick up on that. I'm not sure of your choices of dealers in the area but I would just walk away and take the offer to other dealers asking them to beat it. Always pit the dealers against if you can. Words like ... "so on so is offering me this, I would like to give you my business if you can beat it, what can you do?"

If other dealers aren't an option, then you might want to consider being more patient and wait.

If you can sell you vehicle to Carmax or someone else for a good price then that takes the trade out of the equation. The you could work you purchase over the internet and get a deal online and just fly there and drive it back. Otherwise, you may have to wait awhile for the AWD to become available in your area.

Good luck in your hunt!

I live in Houston and they have almost no AWD availability in TX. Was told the early stock was primarily FWD. Took dealer 30 days to locate vehicle I wanted (Tech, AWD, white) but it arrived today!

I remember when 4G TL got SH-AWD and they did not ship any AWD for a few months after the FWD was released. My guess they are making the high volume models more than anything else right now.

Congrats on the new RDX ZiginTex. AWD would have to be located for our area at this time so you did the right thing asking for a locator.

I just got an email from a Chicago area dealer saying they will beat any written or emailed RDX offer from another dealer by $500.

Just put deposit on awd today in central texas. I searched Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas and there are very few AWD in dealer stock anywhere. I test drove a FWD and found it to spin the front tires very easy without too much throttle and this was on dry roads. $2k for the AWD system seemed like a no-brainer, even if you never drive in the snow. My wife also didn't want a car without a spare tire (fwd versions don't have spare), so that made it an even easier decision. We'll have to wait a few weeks for the car to arrive, but glad we went the route we did.

Here in Eastern PA, my local dealer has only had SHAWD RDX’s on order until today. They received their first FWD for stock. Just not much customer interest in a FWD SUV in the Snow Belt.

It took my dealership three weeks to locate a SH-AWD Advance in pearl black and ebony in Southern California. They trucked one down from Reno.

Don't understand why they seem to have built such a high percentage of FWD. I get maybe for the base model because you are aiming for low price point, but once you get into Tech and certainly A-Spec and Advanced seems like they should be making mostly SH-AWD.

When I was shopping for mine here in Houston, I was told that it'd take 6 to 8 weeks to get an SH-AWD Advance delivered. I was told that most people here don't even ask for the AWD version

We were told about the same thing, plus that there were none available anywhere in TX, LA or MS. With about 30 minutes searching the Acura website's dealer inventory page, we found and bought one from a dealer in Dallas. They seem to get many more there.

We had test drove the FWD. It spins out way too easy. The SH-AWD is a far superior experience.

It is summer up here in the beautiful Hudson Valley. No snow, yet. I was enjoying an ice cream at Cold Spring today, whilst gazing a West Point, across the river. (If you have never been, the US Military Acadamy at West Point is more picturesque than is either the Naval Academy or the Air Force Acadamy.)

I have a few favorite spots where I can enjoy some two lane black top twisties at speed. The RDX is there. I have an FWD Accord, and had an RWD BMW. In the power-on twisties, this Snow Handling-All Wheel Drive acquitted itself very well indeed. Clearly superior to the FWD Accord, and right there, except for smoothness of sound, with the bimmer.

If you press this car, hang on, and trust it, it is very tossable.

I know it's not FWD vs SH-AWD,but I wish dealers in my area would get some Advance AWD models in stock. I am looking forward to taking a test drive. The car has been on sale for two and a half months now, and I am growing impatient.

I wish I were interested in another vehicle so I could at least go drive that, but nothing else is really doing it for me. So I just come back to this forum again and again to see what information I can pick up..... I need a hobby.

is there a noticeable ride difference in the FWD or AWD especially for markets in the south where we don't deal with snow and so may not need the AWD? Or is there some other advantage. Thanks.

I felt huge handling difference. SH-AWD seemed much more planted, confident. I live in Houston where snow isn't issue but after driving both FWD wasn't at all a consideration, even though i ended up waiting roughly a month to get the AWD model I wanted.
