Can you permanently DISABLE auto high-beams?

Another question from a new owner. Is there any way to permanently turn off the auto high-beam capability? I like using the auto head light setting to automatically turn my headlights on and off so I never have to worry about them, but I don't EVER want the auto high beams to come on. They are annoying, and distracting. I tried what it says in the manual about pulling and holding the headlight lever for 40 seconds, and it works, until the next time I start the car, then they are back. Why would you have to go thru a process that takes 40 seconds to complete only to the the function reset when you shut off the car? Very weird.

Thanks, hope someone has an answer.

Just pull it like your gonna flash someone, it will disable them, idk why the manual says 40 seconds, you literally pull it for a split second like your gonna flash someone and it turns the auto high beams off

To totally disable the automatic high beams, put the lights in Auto, and then pull and hold the light switch lever for ~40 seconds until the auto high beam indicator blinks twice. If you just flash the high beams as stated above, it does temporarily disable the feature, but if you happen to flash then high beams again, it turns the system back on.

this only works until you turn off the car. The next time you start it the auto high beams are back on.

According to the owners manual there seems to be a temporary method (works until the next start of the engine) and a permanent method which seems to survive engine restarts.

Yeah, this works. I killed mine about a year ago and it has remained dead.

Same.

Then I realized it was pretty useful and turned it back on.

I like mine...and never turned it off to begin with! I agree it isn't for everyone, that's why Acura provided the means to turn it off.

It looks like I may have whined too soon, when I started the car tonight for my commute home, it was dark, the switch was in auto, and the headlights came on, but not in auto high-beam mode. I’m going to hold off on the new system update and see how they work tomorrow as it will be dark for my drive to work in the morning.

There are way better implementations out there, it checks the box for having auto high beams, but doesn’t seem to care if there are street lights and you’re in a neighborhood with cross traffic, etc. It sees oncoming headlights, that’s about it. At least they can be turned off as OP was asking.

I turned mine off by just holding the lever too and it was definitely not 40 seconds. Haven't noticed it turning back on recently.

I found that the auto high beams did not turn off when there was oncoming traffic ~50% of the time. It became quite annoying.

Since your miles are .62 of our American miles. Maybe your seconds are .62 of our seconds, so it seems faster, like 40 seconds American is only 25 seconds Canadian.

Hate to revive a dead post here, but I’ve tried the “power on hold lever for 40 seconds” thing the manual states. My indicator never flashes twice to indicate Auto Highs are off. Anyone else run into this?

just tonight the damn things kept going high to low with a cop right down the street from me maybe 1/4 mile or so. Nothing happened but I’d rather not be flashing highs at people randomly when it’s not needed..

Thanks in Advance

A “quick pull” of the light/blinker lever towards you will shut the auto high beams off. Another quick pull towards you toggles them back on.

thanks I’ll try that next time, I did see another user suggest that, but it doesn’t permanently disable the auto highs..

The owner's manual suggests if you never want the Auto High beams to activate (when the headlight switch is in the Auto position) to see your dealer... pg 191 of the 2019 PDF owner's manual. So apparently they can set it for you?

I'm not sure how this is different than this:
"Disable or re-enable the system when the vehicle is parked with the power mode ON and the headlight switch in the AUTO position. Disabling the system; Pull the headlight switch lever toward you and hold for at least 40 seconds...the auto high beam indicator will blink twice..."
