Can you Disable AWD or make it temp FWD? Spare tire

Thinking about rigging up a spare tire for my 2020 RDX A-SPEC SH-AWD. Wondering if I should invest in the kit.

I think he's concerned about the diameter of the donut damaging the AWD.

I wanna know if i should even bother investing in a spare tire. The model we bought doesn't come with one. I'm assuming bc of our 20 inch wheels. If the manufacturer doesn't want us driving on mismatched wheels even for short distance like emergencies would call for then I'm not sure if I'm able to do this. So is there a way to put the car in a temporary limp mode. Maybe electronically shut the awd system dn for a bit or allow the computer to compensate for a different tire rpm due to different diameter.

Also how do i edit my original post? Lol sorry

It is A-OK to use the OEM donut spare for the RDX. Just follow the limitations in the owner's manual for driving with a donut spare. I use the donut spare with my 06 TSX and 08 RDX; but, have full size spares at home. I have Conti DWS 06 tires on my vehicles and it can be days or weeks before replacements are available depending on the time of year. I only use my donut spare until I can get home to replace with the full size spare or to the tire shop to fix the flat right away.

I don't know if the +19 RDX can fit a full size spare? Some 2nd Gen MDX owners had an issue fitting a full size spare when they had certain aftermarket hitches installed. Some stuck with the donut spare and other carried a 12v air pump and deflated the full size spare enough to fit between the aftermarket hitch arms.

You can only edit for 15 minutes. After that if you need to post a correction you will have to post it in a new post.

Remember the 20inch aspec rim with tire is the same diameter as the 19inch rim with tire, it’s just the rim to tire ratio is different. I have the spare that I added to my aspec, I went with a slightly wider tire that caused the diameter to grow a slight amount because of the fixed rim size, it’s within 1% of the stock tire in diameter

You are massively overthinking this.

Get the spare if you want. If you plan to travel anywhere you might not be near services, I recommend it.

Don't worry about the size mismatch. It won't hurt the AWD. If you're worried about it, keep your speed down while you're using the spare, which you should do anyway. And get it changed ASAP.

The "packaging" of spare with the different trims has nothing to do with different size wheels and protecting the AWD. Weight and cost come to mind.

The 2019 RDX hoist mechanism will not work with a full size aluminum wheel, by design. Not sure why they did this, but I tried... they're not lying, it really won't work.

And the mount points are different for the hoist on this vehicle vs previous models, so you can't cheat and use an old hoist.

Where was this attention to detail when they designed the infotainment system?

So unless you plan to lug the spare around on the roof or in the cargo area, no go.
