Angry Burst rear window, manufacturing defect or just old man winter?

Very odd thing happened to me today. I'm in the Northeast so got hit by a blizzard yesterday, about 2 feet of snow bleh. Anyhow I cleaned my car off and didn't notice any issues on my rear windshield, I didn't do anything but brush off snow. Drove it to work about 25 miles away with no issues, parked all day at work, remote started it then got in and drove home a couple of hours ago. One odd thing I noticed was it seemed my rear window did not want to defrost, it looked like ice was frozen over but I couldn't get a good look as I was driving. When I got home I parked and shut the car off and heard a shatter sort of sound, I just assumed it was ice falling off the car and went inside. An hour or so later my wife noted a huge hole in the rear window, it just completely shattered. There are pieces missing from the side edge where it contacts the car as well, almost making it seem as if it buckled or maybe changed size with temperature differentials.

Anyway does anyone think this might be a manufacturing issue covered under warranty? I've never had this happen in 35+ years of owning cars. Worst case I can just go through my insurance, but I hate to make claims and get repriced or dropped.
