Auto Start/Stop
#81
For anyone who wants to permanently disable auto idle stop, take a look at the postings by UKBob at
https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-ds980464
He describes the idea of disconnecting the battery state of charge (SOC) sensor from the negative end of the battery. Apparently this disables auto idle stop in many cars. I have not seen a report indicating that this works on Acuras. However, it seems very likely to work.

^ UKBob is an idiot. Disconnecting that sensor will also set DTC's resulting in warning lights/messages and cause the alternator to default to a fixed charging voltage will reduce the life of the battery.

It's easy to spend 10 seconds dismissing people who come up with interesting ideas as "idiots". In the Mercedes forum (linked by UKBob) multiple people report success with that idea. There is also some discussion of the charging issue. Perhaps this will really cause problems with Acuras, perhaps not. Even if some warning light is set, that does not necessarily invalidate the idea. For example, if your tire pressure sensor fails, you may chose to ignore the resulting warning light and simply periodically check your tire pressure manually, the old fashioned way.

On a Honda/Acura product, a disconnected or faulty 12 volt battery sensor will result in a battery light, "charging system problem" message, and DTC for open circuit, loss of communication, and/or internal fault.

Skeptic
Such a chore to press a button on the dash that couldn't be more conveniently located.

"Idiot" may have been inappropriate. I apologize for the knee-jerk reaction - I had just seen part of another Scotty Kilmer video that contained misinformation which lit my fuse.

I see the point -- getting used to ignoring a "charging error" warning would not be a good thing.
A few Scotty Kilmer videos are reasonable entertainment. However, there is a limit to the number of laughing horses images one can take...

No, you were right on and anyone that thinks circumventing or modifying wiring, sensors, modifying software, firmware is stupid as well as an idiot especially on new modern vehicles. The old days are over. Hell, Acura cannot even get some electronics to work right but I guess some think they can do better.
