Exclamation Apple Carkey, what's the chance we get this?

Was just reading that iOS 13.4 Beta has a function called Carkey which allows you to open and start your vehicle with your phone or apple watch, sounds really killer: https://www.engadget.com/2020/02/06/ios-13-4-carkey/ I've always longed to at least have a credit card sized fob that I could stick in my wallet as I don't carry any other keys around and hate lugging the regular fob around. This method sounds killer as I always have my phone on me. It looks like it functions off of NFC which I have no idea if Acura uses, but based on their ineptness with their software and the Acura app I have a feeling that Carkey won't work, at least for current models. Anyone that knows more about how this all works I'd love to hear their thoughts and if we have any chance at all of Acura implementing this in prior models, mine is a 2019.

FYI Acura at least improved their iOS app, but it still sucks, half the time it needs to "connect" to my vehicle and I sit there for 1-2 minutes before I can start the car, the other half it gets stuck on the connecting screen and I have to force close the app and restart it, sad to say that's actually a big improvement over prior iterations. Just give me a credit card fob and I'd be happy, although Carkey sounds really awesome as well.

Sounds like you need a Tesla.... all there.

but seriously. This will likely never happened with Acura. We are all about performance.

These convenience features (unrelated to being about "performance") are low hanging fruit that adds value to the market they want to compete in. Although...given the dissatisfaction of the current infotainment system in general, I don't know that I'd want them to have a failed roll-out of CarKey and further dampen customer experience. iOS/Carplay is buggy enough systems in general without added issues of the Acura Infotainment system.

Considering that my keyless entry doesn’t work 20% of the time, I’d be wary of Acura being able to pull off something like this flawlessly.

Heck I'd get a Tesla FOR performance, not an Acura. I have thought about it, but there is no more federal EV credit. Even Genesis has the credit card fobs available, although I have no idea if they are thinking about Carkey.

I asked the same question in a different thread (in a different way). My understanding is that this new Apple feature is NFC based, and Acura RDX doesn’t have NFC.

Acura can’t even get CarPlay to work reliably. That last thing we need is them screwing up access/locking and starting the vehicle - what could possibly go wrong?

I think the new Sonata may have this. It sounds convenient, but I think you also need to put your phone on a touch pad in the car to start it. NFC is very limited in range, same thing that Apple Pay uses
