+1. Two things I know I will never use in mine are Apple CarPlay (already deleted from the main screen so I can utilize the space for something useful) and Android Auto (if and when it ever comes it will meet the same fate).

I was looking forward to my TLX to get Android Auto as the factory nav sucks, but man not to start a debate, but Android Auto is a quirky pile of... I have been die hard Android person, but lately it feels like Android and in particular Android Auto is like being involved in a perpetual beta test. Every day is a crap shoot as to whether it will work well. When wife gets her RDX this weekend I am looking forward to trying CarPlay to see how well it works.

The first time I ran Carplay for Amazon Music also had the native nav running. It locked up after about 25 minutes.
Today, I ran Carplay with Amazon Music, but I had Apple Maps giving directions. No problem. On the way back, I ran Acura Nav with a USB music source, again, no problem. I wonder if mixing carplay stuff with Acura stuff overloads something that eventually heats up and causes problems.

Same. Mine has been glitch free. CarPlay, NAV, USB music, Amazon music, all works perfect. Knock on wood lol.

It could be your phone. Android auto is powered by your phone. I have a google pixels 2 and I used Android auto on my Civic before I trade it in and it works great. While I own the civic, i also used it with Samsung S4, S7, and two other recent Sony phones. The Sony also works well but the 2 samsung did not. Lots of lag and probably some crashes. I also had an iPhone 6 and use it with apple car play whick was crashing constantly before I switch over to Android.

The benefits of Android Auto are numerous to me as I use Waze on my drive into work and home for instant traffic, police and other notifications from other users. I use Google music to load and play podcasts from my favorite sports talk shows during my commute as well. Also, the reading of text messages and responses is much better with Android Auto than the default system.

As for navigation, I think Acura didn't invest a lot of resources into the built-in navigation software because they think most drivers will use their favorite app from their smartphone. Call it social engineering. I like to have a choice, but if they don't fix some silly omissions like screen zoom I will probably switch to Google maps under iOS 11, or the new-and-improved Apple Maps that should be released at the same time. The current Apple Maps is just as frustrating as the current built-in Nav software, IMO, especially because of the different trackpad functionality in CarPlay ( which will hopefully be fixed in the same upcoming update ).
Baby steps.

The funny thing is that the argument used to be Apple vs IBM. Then it was Apple vs Microsoft. Now it's Apple vs Google. There is one element of commonality.
I'm not an Apple snob, I just like it when stuff "just works".

yep that absolutely happens. A phone is good for 2-3 years max! It’s no mistake that AppleCare is good for 2 years and then you’re out of pocket for anything.

In judging the relative value of most Apple products, I consider the useful lifespan. I have 10 year old Macs that are still fulfilling useful roles. ( SSD storage is the fountain of youth ).
But the technology churn of smartphones and "wearable" tech is extreme. This is a huge problem as we contemplate convergence of relatively long-lived mobility appliances ( cars ) with our information appliances. In the absence of useful standards, chaos ensues.

The throttle gate was bad on apple. But if you think about it, the next iOS upgrade will include 5s and up. 5s was from 2013 you have to give credit to apple on software support here . No 2013 Android phone is getting offical OS update from Google, Samsung, etc. Google only guarantee support of my 2017 pixel 2 until October 2020.

You sound like one of those people that say "Macs don't get viruses"

Macs get malware, like every other computing device. As long as crooks keep being crooks and jerks keep being jerks, I don't expect that to change.
You sound like the kind of person who makes unwarranted assumptions about other people. It doesn't impress.

Personally Android Auto means nothing to me but i was at the dealership this morning dropping off the RDX for tranny, nav, carplay, etc. etc etc. which of course got the "unable to duplicate" BS response from the dealer and the service guys were saying February '19 for Android Auto...hope this helps and for all the Android users out there I hope you get this and its way better than CarPlay implementation.
to all of you Android vs iOS arguers - who cares what anyone uses. Just use what you like and quit complaining about what you don't use. Competition usually results in better products for the customer.... Full disclosure: I am all Apple everything lol

OK, so make that "possibly" instead of "probably". It's sunny out and I got a little carried away.

Ask Google
Google is (supposedly) developing the software, not Acura.
Other than corporate pressure, Acura cannot accelerate the process.
If your car buying decision is based on the entertainment system, buy a Yugo and spend a couple of grand on an after market stereo.

I think more on Acura's side to push the development and TT driver for Google AA to work.

What do drivers of Audi TTs have to do with this?
