Acura Chief engineer discuss RDX with Autoline.
28:00 he talks about improvements made to acoustic over gen2
34:46 he admits rough shifting issue. From the response it doesn’t look like it will be a soft fix.

He can claim acoustic improvements all day long, but I hear more noise, mostly road noise. Maybe the choice in tires is to blame, but I won’t know until my wife needs tires and I put better rubber on.

Well at least be admitted it. A now everyone can bring that to their dealer.
Anyone else notice it?

It’s not normal to have rough shift. Not everyone experiences it, that’s why it’s a problem but wide enough to have him acknowledge the problem.
be glad that you have a butter like shift. When I test drove the advance, it was smooth and I didn’t detect any rough shifting

this was my number one concern in going with the rdx... that 9sp zf just about killed Acura to me... did you take a test drive in your actual car before delivery? It seems like a bit of a lottery... I am concerned because the one I test drove was smooth and weirdness free, but mine had to be ordered (scheduled for production next week).

FWIW the Aspec does not have acoustic side glass, the different tires which are wider create more road noise according to AlexonAutos), and has different exhaust tips (not sure if that makes any diff)

But tire noise varies dramatically with the type of road surface, and that could be a feature of the tires. I'll know more in a few months when I swap on the winter rubber. But if past experience is a guide, things usually seem pretty quiet after I take off the winter tires in spring...

What tires are you seeing on the RDX's you purchased? My wife and I find that our RDX is very quiet and we don't hear much/any road noise at all on our Advance. I know that different tire manufacturers may get used based on vehicle manufacture date and what's "in stock" at the plant or manufacture and/or trim level.

I have factory Contis installed. On smooth asphalt with no road imperfections the tire noise is excellent, but on anything else its obvious. Asphalt that has imperfections (majority of roads) and you hear the tire noise. Also the noise of the engine under acceleration is far louder in the cabin than her 16 RDX was or even my ASPEC TLX. Her 16 RDX had factory tires first 2 years then Pro Contact Conti's which I loved, they had great handling and comfort and were very quiet.

The engine noise part. G3 RDX pipes in engine noise when in sports mode. I am sure the old RDX does not do that

I'm pretty sure all RDX except 20" wheels come with the Continentals. Tirerack.com list only those as OEM tires and I know for a fact that for other vehicles that have multiple OEM tires they list all of them.

I will be honest in my TLX I could not tell any difference in noise with the ANC unplugged. Only thing I noticed was lack of fake engine noise. I would be also it was placebo effect, but I swear ELS sounds a bit cleaner. I had read others say similar, but it was not like night and day.

OK I spent some time fiddling around. I had a 50/50 chance and started with passengers's side and took the bottom glove box trim out so I could then remove part of the right lower console trim. Dead end as the HVAC duct to rear runs down right side. Put it back together and tried right side. The accelerator makes it tight, but the lower left trim you just pop out the lower piece back by seat then pop out by peddle and pull toward seat. Sure enough the ANC module is ride there below where the powe outer is. Easy to pull cable and no more ANC. Started car and no warning light everything was quiet. Will know soon if it helps or not about to go out in a little bit. Will report back later.

I wasn't disappointed, but I wasn't impressed by my RDX's road noise. I then discovered the dealer installed the body plugs in the wrong holes. After I moved them to the correct holes and bought four additional plugs for the other holes, I'm now satisfied with the road noise. It's still not as quiet as my 2017 Ridgeline, but it's acceptable and MUCH quieter than my 2018 Accord Sport which was almost deafening on coarse pavement.
My 2-3 shift was pretty bad during the first 1,000 miles. I started driving it fairly aggressively when I could after the 600-mile break-in period was up and smoothed out significantly. I'm nearing 1,500 miles and the 2-3 shift is almost acceptable now.
Unfortunately, the terrible vibration while stopped in reverse while the engine is cold remains. I've resorted to backing into my garage at night so that I don't have to use reverse in the mornings. That's really the only significant complaint I have at this point.

OK, first report. Drove about 20 minutes and to be honest maybe the ANC helps keep the engine noise down a bit, it not much. Road noise is harder to tell. On the road with average asphalt it was quiet. I told ire to drive it all week this way and see what she thinks. I do think it helps quit the racket from th engine, but little or no impact on road noise. I only drive her RDX once a week and will say my TLX is tomb quiet inside compared to her 19 RDX Advance. Most of the road noise to me sounds like it comes from rear half of car. If I had to drive this every day ANC or not the engine noise is too excessive and rackety for me. My guess is I will be reconnecting the ANC next weekend. Unplugging the ANC in my TLX was huge improvement because ther was fake engine noise in all modes.

that's a good question, I know in other "disappointed" thread folks have mentioned their installs. It would be good to share the wheels they received so we can compare notes. I'm uncertain of Acura but I know that not every car gets the same brand of tires in the European counterparts, it often varies on regions and timings.

Wife drove all day with ANC disabled and said not a big difference, but said it does sound like there is a little more noise so the ANC is now reconnected. Either way it is not making a huge improvement.

Go test a 2017-current Ridgeline RTL-E or Black Edition if you get a chance. Interior noises levels are lower at cruise than a MB S-class according to Car and Driver. I really enjoyed the peace and quiet inside mine.
