21’ RDX a-spec grey seat piping issue

Hi all,

Quick question, I was looking at my driver’s seat today and noticed that the top layer of the grey piping that surrounds the seat has peeled off.

The car has only 19k on it and will be 24 months old in January. This seems like a premature failure, but I am not sure how Acura will respond once I take it to the dealer.
I am curious, can they

replace only the bottom section of the seat or does it need to be the entire seat?

Yes, they can only replace the bottom cushion. However it may come as a complete seat kit (driver or passenger). Regardless, I wouldn't worry - as its under warranty. Sooner you get it in for a quick evaluation the faster they can order the parts.

Quick update - my local dealer is telling me they need to send it out to the Acura rep to have the claim approved as seats are considered a "wear and tear" item. I understand that, but this vehicle has been exceptionally well cared for and I'd hate to think the would deny the claim with only 19k on the clock. Assumed with was a prima facie warranty claim, but I guess not.

Typical Acura! I had a Honda back in the day with a similar issue. I managed to get them bottom seat cover replaced under warranty, but it wasn't an easy task to do. The dealership kept trying to push it off on my doing - wrong cleaning product used, pants with beads or buttons on them, etc. Finally, I got them to replace it, probably because I was complaining about it all of the time. Regardless, I'm sure they will come up with some BS reason as to why it's YOUR fault and not a defective product. Good luck!

It just part of the Honda/Acura policy. Cross your fingers they SHOULD approve it. Otherwise, keep pushing fit up to the chain. It is NOT a wear item, 19K miles on a seat bottom should not wear like that.

I have noticed some crease lines on the outside bottom of the driver seat (the part that is under your left leg when driving). I know that there is some creasing to be expected but my car is 3 years old with 35,000 km and not sure if should be wearing so much.

All normal "wear and tear" IMO for creases on leather after a while - drivers seat takes a beating.
