2021 rdx

,I've had my new RDX Elite (Canadian models have an Elite) now for a month and a half, here are my impressions. I love the car overall, especially the interior. I don't understand Acura's decision to put this 2 litre 4 cylinder in the car. I owned a 2013 Acura RDX with the 6 cylinders and I felt it was the best motor/transmission I ever had in a car. Passing power was more than adequate and instantaneous, nice sporty sound, good gas mileage. At first I was complaining about tire noise but now I'm thinking it's because the car is quieter and there is nothing to drown out the tire noise. I used to listen to the radio at a 10 setting and now listen to the radio at a 8 setting (and my radio is not the 3D model)

Opinions about v6 vs turbo 4 RDX will vary. I did not like 2nd gen RDX powertrain. I would assume you did a test drive before buying it?

it's for EPA. Most of the cars in this class have gone to 4 cylinders + Turbo with some options to upgrade to 6. X3, Q5, GLC, XC60 all have 4 as base/default.

not sure, 2nd gen RDX might have better MPG than 3rd.

I did test drive, Took it on the highway, 100kmh (60mph) - full gas - noticed the delay - didn't feel that much more power - sound not as sporty to me - wondered what was the point of going to a 4 cylinder since no better fuel economy.
Like I mentioned before I like the car, the motor is not a deal breaker for me, but I loved my 6. Could have waited for the MDX but was too much money. I almost went with the Audi SQ5 but it was too much money also.

I own a 2017 MDX with the V6 and a 2021 RDX with the 4 cylinder.

The 4 is definitely louder but it is very capable.

They are about the same, spec shows 3rd gen has better city but lower highway (expected) but combined are the same. However, I think Acura sacrificed mpg for lower-end torque... Otherwise, in general, most manufacturer saw mpg gains and as well as lower production costs by going with 4 cyc.

Yes, I think it's a very capable engine, don't miss the v6 at all.

The four-cylinder turbo motor reacts to how it’s driven. If you honk it around town you’ll get poor mileage. A steady drive on the highway gets me 27 miles per gallon. Typical turbo motor can drink the fuel when pushed.

Turbo motors tend to guzzle fuel when they're in boost. If you putt around town out of boost, the mileage is fine, but as soon as you're in boost (accelerating, higher highway speeds, etc.) the MPGs drop dramatically.

This article explains why small turbocharged engines gulp fuel when driven hard.

When originally looking at SUVs a few years back I test drove the Gen2 with the v6 and found it very boring. Really the overall vehicle was boring. We recently purchased a '21 RDX Advance and what a huge difference over Gen2. We really wanted the Audi Q5 but to get all the same features you end up paying 10k+ more for less storage, costly maintenance, etc...

Anyway, just my 2 cents but the V6 is not nearly as good or sporty as the 2.0L turbo.

I looked at the 2018 RDX, and was underwhelmed compared with the 2018 CR-V. (Granted the CR-V offered "less" engine, but significantly better fuel economy). So I bought an 18 CR-V Touring. I waited for the 2019 RDX and bought one. Couldn't be happier, compared with my sister-in- law's 2017 RDX.

The 3rd Gen engine is very nice, but I prefer my 14 RDX V6 as it is quieter, and smoother and more refined.

I noticed in your signature you have a Goldwing, aren't they great bikes. Mine's an 09.

And a wonderful 6 cylinder, LOL

Those things have 125 hp. The combination of refinement and power is intoxicating.
