I don’t see the point. Same engine/drivetrain just a hand built A-Spec with PMC badge for $6-8k more?

And what makes “hand built” really so special? It is not going to make it a Bugstti Veyron.

Acura is scraping the bottom of the barrel on the TLX and MDX. The RDX is just getting started so I wouldn't expect a RDX variant unless the PMC workers run out of orders to build.

Personally these PMC edition cars represent something completely different to me. We always keep cutting Acura slack by saying "they're a small company and thus can't afford to do custom options/more trim levels" and yet here they are literally shipping off the body to another factory to have a custom paint job and to be hand built.

To me it says Acura has the capability but is simply lazy and the management too stupid to realize that. I want my Advance RDX but I sure as hell want it with A-Spec looks. Is that harder than literally shipping off the car to another factory to be built? I think NOT.

We keep talking about Acura value, but now you want to pay a huge premium to have your Acura "hand built" with a bunch of plastic parts thrown on like some tuner's Civic?

It's not that Acura couldn't "afford" to do ala carte production of their vehicles. Their parent company, Honda, discovered long ago that they could streamline their operations by producing discrete option packages, and they pass those savings along to consumers.

You might want to investigate the "port installed options" model to see how middle men milk the options menu for obscene profit. And they have an ironclad contract to do so forever.

If Acura's business model doesn't work for you, there are lots of other fish in the sea. For instance, the German brands will be happy to take your money for any little thing your heart desires. But if it makes you feel special...

Please point out for me where I stated I would like to have a hand built Acura? I simply stated that Acura is capable of adding individual options but chooses not to. Furthermore a RDX is no longer that much of a bargain in Canada compared to its euro competition. A fully loaded RDX is about 57k whereas a comparably equipped (with even more features) Q5 is 60k. Lastly where is this "feel special" stuff coming from?

Have you investigated the Port Installed Options thing yet? That is literally shipping off the car to another factory for installation of options.

BTW, the "you" in my previous post was generic, not a specific reference to any given poster, hence the lack of quotation. Sorry about the confusion.

I appologize I thought that was directed at me and was very confused for a bit there, thank you for clarifying.

I have heard about the port of entry modifications, I'll definitely do some more in depth reading on the subject though because you've piqued my interest!

To answer the question. Would I pay $4,000 more for an hand built Advance A-spec (with that fuzzy dash piece replaced with leather), dropped 2”, with a $3,000 dollar paint job? Absolutely. The shear novelty would be worth a couple of grand to me.

I'm all for an RDX version of this for 2020... Of course it must also be a Type S as well.

MDX & TLX on the other hand... Save it for the next generation.

When you put it like that, it's not a bad deal...

All bets are off on new models. Who knows what will happen. But, changes on vehicles are planned far in advance, like two or three years to be exact. Designs have to be finalized, contracts worked out with suppliers, tooling made up, and lots of testing done, so nothing happens quickly. But, we are living in strange times and no one has a crystal ball. Manufactures are looking at giant sized losses in the billions so they have many sleepless nights trying to solve their problems and stay in business. I spent my working career in the industry and never did we have to deal with anything quite like this. We are in uncharted waters for sure.

It's a lot of money and hype for the same thing you get in an Advance plus paint and interior trim. They need to put about 300hp in to make it worthwhile.

There is an PMC Edition RDX coming. https://www.autoweek.com/news/luxury...x-pmc-edition/ It's basically RDX Advance package with A-Spec look. Meaning HUD, Power Folding mirror and etc. Maybe there will be folding mirror part available soon for RDX?
