Chirping Noise from Engine - Idler Pulley

2014 MDX Base
My car had this chirping noise when the engine was at its operating temp.

My local dealer consulted with Honda technical folks and found the idler pulley as the culprit. Acura TBS 08-031. They installed the shim and new timing belt.

Good to hear one has been figured out. Now they need to resolve the fuel pump chirping after 5K-10K miles.

Is this a sound you hear from the back of the car? 18k miles on ours with no issue. I did have the same pulley noise that was resolved with the TSB below.

Keep us posted

Brand new MDX 2016 with 1000 miles already has exactly the same noise. I guess Acura is not making a reliable car anymore. Not expect a $50K car to have problem this early.

My Acura dealer seems to think it's the DI noise rather than pulley.

Did the TSB completely fix the chirp for you?

Just dropped of my vehicle. The Technician heard the noise and indentify the problem right away. He said it is a timing belt issue. He has seen a lot.

I think Acura MDX has a serious issue in QA procedure. My car has only 1K miles on it.

TSB 14-025 was revised to include some 2016 MDX VINs. See the TSB thread for details.

I picked mine up today and they told me it is a fuel pump noise and Acura will not do anything about it because it is normal. Mine is an Advance model and it is most likely my last one because after listening to this for 2 years I'll have had enough.

Forgot to update. I got the car back within the same day. Chirping noise is still there after fixing the timing belt. Actually it is slightly worse. Talked to Tech in person. He said he cannot fix that noise. My car engine is still much quieter than other cars!!!!!?????

Well, this one will be the last Acura car for the rest of life. just don't want to spend money and get pissed off

Thanks for the update.

My 2014 is getting close to the end of the 4year/50K mile warranty. I am considering to buy Acuracare just for the piece of mind.

I share the same feeling as yours. I'll go with Toyota/Lexus SUVs next time. Actually, since I need to buy extended warranty for my Acura, might as well buy a BMW and extended warranty.

I complained to Acura and they had a representative call me and basically tell me the same thing the dealer told me. They do not see this as a problem and will not fix it. It is supposed to be a normal noise for a high pressure fuel pump. I explained to him this was my 8th and last Acura and he could have cared less. He made me so mad talking to him it made me understand they have found out how to hide behind issues by saying it is normal. I asked him about he rubbing in the steering wheel when turning and he said this is a normal function for this car. I told him I didn't buy a $57,000 suv to put up this. Again his attitude was he really didn't care. So if you think you'll get any better from Acura Client Relations, your wrong.

Angry 2015 Acura MDX irritating UFO noise

See video to hear the sound

Very irritating. Went to one dealership and they checked the high pressure fuel pump. They declared the pump operates normally but never addressed the noise issue, which was why I wasted time to go in the first place.

Again Acura doesn't care and the dealers hands are tied. If more people will call Acura or send them an email complaining they may decide to look at the problem. They need to get bombarded with complaints before they will do anything.

Frankly I wouldn't buy a 2014 to 2016 MDX and put up this. If I knew I wouldn't have purchased one.
