3G Navi Update?

The 2016 Brown DVD is available for purchase for $149 on the Acura Navi update site. However, it says a free software update is needed before the update DVD can be purchased. Anyone out there done the update? I am wondering how this is possible since the 3G MDX does not have a DVD player unless you have the RES. Am I missing something, or is the navi website screwed up?

For the old 2G MDX, you would insert into the CD slot to update the Navi with the update DVD. This is what I did with my 11 Adv+Ent.

Lol I'm beating a HERE rep up because he doesn't even know a 2015 MDX (which this 2016 brown dvd is for, not the 2016 MDX) update is out. Trying to ask him also about the how to update on a car that doesn't have a DVD drive by default.

Okay, I apologize for the mixup. Our database just hasn't been updated to include the 2015. So you are good to order that update for the 2015 MDX.

right... but not all MDXes have a DVD drive
ME 3:13 PM
specifically non-entertainment models
Me: 3:13 PM
though we do have the navi

Jeff 3:13 PM
It doesn't have a CD Player?
Me 3:14 PM
It does, but your page says it's a DVD
ME 3:14 PM
and CD players don't play DVDs necessarily
ME 3:14 PM
Acura page lists: CD, MP3, WMA6 and DTS-compatible disc player.

Jeff 3:14 PM
It is, but it goes in the CD Player. I'm not sure how it works that way, it just does. But it goes in the CD Player.

ME 3:14 PM
Hmm alright. So if it doesn't work, just ask for a refund?

Jeff 3:15 PM
Yes that is correct.

That's an interesting conversation with the rep. So, rexorg, you plan to do the update? I'm buying a used 2014 MDX adv, and i'm highly considering the nav update. IF you get it, let us know how it goes.

I don't know if I need the update since I have a '16 MDX, but will check the version number of the software in the MDX. I am guessing the MDX needs an update thru the USB port instead of the DVD. In any case I'll let everyone know.

Navi on 2015+ models should be updated via a flash drive. The 2G MDX with the HDD had the in-dash player or USB update the Hard-drive. I have a 2G with the DVD drive under the drivers seat.

I assume you meant 2014+?? since that's a 3G as well.
I'm picking up my 2014 soon, which is why I ask. is that updated via USB as well? and if so, can that only be done at a dealer, or is there an online reseller that sells these USB drives?

Acura switched to HDD on the +10 MDX; but, it still used DVDs to update the Navi. I still had to insert the navi update DVD into the CD slot in the dash even with the Ent CD/DVD player right below the CD slot. The +10 MDX don't have a separate navi CD reader under the seat like the 07-09 MDX.

I'm thinking the procedure should be the same as the 10-13 MDX since an update disks look about the same as previous HDD version and I didn't see an option of a flashdrive update. You might have to check with the dealership if you need the free navi software update for the 14-15 MDX?. If not, I think you need to go on-line to The Official Acura Map Update Site | Home | HERE and provide:
- Database version
- Device number
- VIN

Acura will send you a update DVD you insert into the CD slot and you enter the one-time code provided with the instructions on the navi screen to start the 20-30 minute system update. Keep the MDX running because it can kill the battery during the update. Eject the update DVD and the XM system will continue to update the database maps in the background every time the MDX is running (takes between 2-12 hours depending on number of updates and signal strength).
