2006 MDX w/65k Miles (Timing Belt)

Is this a typical service request at 65k miles?

What should this cost?

Your owner's manual is your friend.
The ’06 Owner’s and Service Manual says to follow the “Severe Conditions” schedule for Canadian owners. Both recommend a 105K mi/7yr. TB replacement interval in normal & severe conditions.

The Service Manual describes other extreme conditions and the Owner’s Manual goes on to recommend the 60K mi replacement under extreme temperature or towing.

So unless you are in Canada or operate in extreme conditions, from a mileage perspective you are fine. The long debated question is about the time interval and you will find lots of folks on both sides of the fence regarding this. As an example - https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/2007-tl-type-s-timing-belt-913614/

I had the old '03 belt replaced in 2011, despite only 62000 miles at the time; service advisor explained that the 7 year time lapse was just as pertinent as the 70K mileage threshold, as the belt begins to weaken and that's where the proverbial feces strikes the fan; it cost about $950, with a majority of cost alloted to the labor; I wouldn't have anyone but Acura perform this job

Timing belts are designed to be changed at around 100K miles. The 65K thing is a thing of the distant past. Secondly belts don't "weaken" or "loosen" that is one the main reasons they have replaced chains. Belts do fail without warning but as I explained above very, very, very rarely before 100K, that is the reason essentially all cars boast no "tuneup" before 100miles. Unless you are regularly towing or are constantly driving under extreme conditions your timing belt should have a loooong uneventful life. Its quite common for cars to have original timing belts with 200K miles. Timing belt inspection is part of all cars maintenance program and basicly consists of looking at it to make sure the is no abnormal wear or fraying. By the time most timing chains fail the cost of the repair is greater than the value of the car, ergo the car is a ripe old age and not worth much to begin with. So rest easy and save money.

Pyannello, try posting in the 2G MDX sub-forum.

You'll certainly get more advices from the other 2G MDX owners.
