What brand of oil are you using?
Hey guys I'm currently almost due for my 2nd Oil change on my 2018 Hybrid and wanted to see know what brand of motor oil you guys using?
I've used Mobil 1 Full synthetic for all my cars and never had any issues but for my first oil change I've decided to use Amsoil Full synthetic signature series. The Oil alone was roughly $13 a quart and I was only able to find it in a small private race shop here in SoCal. My current oil life is at 40% and my motor seems to be responding as if oil life was at 100%. Amsoil claims to have a 15k oil life so I'm looking forward to seeing how the driver feel is when I hit 10-15% oil life.

Oil
Amsoil is overpriced hype.
i tend to buy full synthetic what ever namembrand is on sale and meets the vehicle mfg specs. Some may claim more additives, or some special additive, but resesrch oils and their pretty much all good.

I just have to ask - what does it mean to say the "motor seems to be responding as if oil life was at 100%"? I've been driving for a very long time, and I can't recall any engine "response" degradation as the time approached for the next oil change. If you use garbage oil, sometimes you can hear the engine get "louder" as the oil degrades - but my only experiences with that were back in the 70's when oil was not really graded nor tested much. This day in age, with synthetics and current technology, I contend you can't feel any performance or "driver feel" difference as the oil ages.......

However, I did change to Pennzoil Ultra-Platinum two oil changes ago and I feel like it's better than the Mobil 1 EP - quieter engine and less discoloration over time. It's only moderately brown after 5K miles or so. And no oil consumption whatsoever. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if there's absolutely no difference in actual engine wear since all my observations are strictly anecdotal.

The only time I've experienced a noticeable difference in oil life, is when my 84 Jeep CJ5 had none. It was subtle, but the motor stopped working and there was a burining smell. Maybe in my head, but I could tell the difference

Nah, all in your head. The motor probably stopped because you ran out of gas or something. Oil is one of those optional things anyways. Like running out of windshield washer fluid or something.

I wouldn't go so far as to say Acura "endorsed" it, more like back then Mobil was the only game in town which met the specs for that engine, fast forward a few years and pretty much every oil brand has an oil which handily exceeds the necessary standards for that engine.

I'm pretty sure the Mobil 1 designation on oil caps is merely a marketing ploy to promote their oil. I mean, what does "or equivalent" mean? API certified? In which case 99% of oils would be "equivalent".... Or is it referring to some other synthetic with the same base oil and additive package? Which is nearly impossible to determine since most of the additive packages are proprietary. It's silly in my opinion
