Wet carpet from driving through street flooding
Wet carpet from driving through street flooding
Hi all...We had some flooding in the city and my wife was caught out going through some high water. The only result seems to be that water is under the carpet on front passenger side (I opened the vehicle ID cover there and the padding underneath is soaked. I think just pulling up the carpet on that side to get it dried out would do the trick and looking for instructions on how to pull up just that section. I am tempted to also just leave the vehicle ID cover off and put some plastic spacers to let the water evaporate to see if that will work out but I am afraid of mold taking that route. Any thoughts/guidance/pointers are appreciated. --Ed

If salt water I’d call insurance and be ready to kiss it goodbye because there could be future corrosion in the wiring harness and on and ground points.
Fresh water I’d pull the front seat, vacuum the carpets dry then lift the carpet to vacuum out the water under it. Keeping the carpet propped up I would put a dehumidifier and fan in the car and run them until it dries out. The carpet padding can hold a lot of water. I did this with my sedan when the sunroof drain clogged and leaked into the passenger footwell.
