Warranty Q - Non cpo, used mdx

Not sure if anyone knows or can confirm, if i just buy a non cpo acura under the 50k/4 yr marker. As 2nd owner, can I just buy the acura care or is that for new car only.

I dont see a lot of cpo mdx in my area, but I do see a lot of non cpo inventory in dealer searches... so my option is buy a non cpo and add warranty to it.

Before you talk me out of warranty my last acura was a 05 tsx purchased new. Acuracare purchase from curry for around 1200

- Nav system went out - full replacement
- ac grenade - very common on 04/05 - replaced
- hub bearings
- misc electronic/door issues

All that cost more than the 1200 I paid... so it was worth buying the extended warranty as everything happen around the 90k mark.. AC repair itself was est 1500-3k depending on dealer.

I am assuming that you are in Westchester NY area since you mention Curry? There are quite a few place that sells CPO Acura if you are willing to drive down to the Metro New York area. As for AcuraCare, I had been reading different forums and the cheapest I been quoted is about $1800. I read it on here or another forum that there is an Honda dealer in MA that sells it at that price. PM me if you need more info.

but that assumes pricing from new. When you buy a warranty on a car with over 6000 miles, then the price goes up as mileage goes up.

The $2340 doesn't seem that far out of line. Curry is one of the online dealers that generally has good pricing. The OP can verify the pricing by getting quotes from other online dealers like Bernardi or Saccucci.

In searching online for discounted extended warranty, I found a lot of people referring to Hyannis Honda They use to quote as low as half of the msrp. However, the person had since retired and now the price is pretty much at $1800. For anyone that is interested, give them a shot and see if you can get a better deal.

What is the year, tech level, and are you going to keep +120K?

I did the same warranty for 5yr/120,000 online from Tim, Acura of Peoria, Arizona, $2350, 1-866-347-8355. The price seemed pretty firm from them. I used it once, so far, to replace a bad front passenger heating pad. Mainly got it for the magnetic struts/shocks on my 11 MDX Adv that can cost more than the warranty to replace a pair (already had the front fail at 35K, I have 70K now).

My own guidelines are with 1st-2nd model year vehicles tech or above (before MMC) or any Acura with the magnetic shocks/struts would need Acura Care extended warranty. I would stick with Acura Care instead of trying to save $$$ with 3rd party vendor if you really want to get one.

I would get a 2015 or 2016.. I clock 25-30k a year maybe... so I drive the living crap out of every car. I try to trade in before repair gets heavy

99 accord - 140k in 6 years, traded in - Rav4
05 tsx - 115k in 4.5 years, traded in - Rx450h
08 z4 - 61k - i drive this one way less
10 rx450 - 110k - ready to trade in for mdx - hybrid are nice... too bad i can't get one with 3rd row

Im in NYC, so I will shop around some more before I buy.. it seems cheaper or similar to just buy slightly used mdx and buy acuracare than to buy cpo and wrap warranty on it...

The pathfinder and infiniti qx60 come in hybrid trim and are considered to be "true 7-seater" vehicles. Vw/audi has a hybrid 7 seater coming up very soon (should be a really really good buy). There is the toyota highlander hybrid which also seats 7. And if you want to go bonkers all the way, a tesla model x (I think these are 7 seater, could be wrong).

pathfinder (nissan/infiniti) is no go, i google and google, it says hev limited availability.. meaning limited tech that can fix it.. its not like lexus/toyota where they got millions of hybrid on the road...

If i'm buying a telsa suv, i can buy 3 mdx

It is amazing with so many different new or used make/models out there and 95-99% of them just don't seem to fit us. You might have to go with a round peg in a square hole until something better pops-up down the road. This is where I'm at with my 10 yr old TSX and 8 yr old RDX with both at +126k on the odo.
