Transmission Test Port for Temperature Sensor

Just got a 2016 and want to add a gauge for transmission temperature. I have been told to put the sensor in the test port, but I do not know where that is on the transmission. Also, I need to know the thread size in order to get the proper adapter. Anyone know location or size? Thanks.

Out of curiosity, do you plan on towing? Is that why you want to keep an eye on the transmission temps?

Yes, I am going to be towing. I had a 2005 that had the factory extra trans cooler and the larger PS cooler. I was still able to overheat the transmission while towing. Although I did not seem to do any damage. I added another aftermarket cooler and a gauge and had no further problems. For the 2005, which had lots of miles, I had a transmission shop drill and tap a hole in the transmission for the temperature sensor. I want to add that same temperature gauge to my new 2016. But with less than 4K miles, I am hesitant to drill a hole in the transmission. The best option seems to be mounting the sensor in the test port.

Oh ok I gotcha. As I am sure you are aware, the 2001-2006 mdx's had glass transmissions. Thankfully I don't think the 2G and 3G have as bad transmissions. I am sorry I can't help you with this current question as I don't have any knowledge on the 3G mdx transmision but there is an alternate forum called mdxers.org where there are more members and they might have someone who has done the same thing. Though adding another cooler could never hurt
