Switching Insurance Policy

We would like to know which of the companies below is good with replacing broken windshields with OEM parts in TX without any fuss:
Geico
Progressive
State Farm
Any other worth shopping around?

Our AAA policy is up for renewal this week and since windshields are the most common broken item, we would like recommendations for shopping around.
Please let us know. We have a clean driving slate....

Wouldn't it make more sense to weigh more than just that one reason to determine that proper insurance company for you? How often have you had to replace windshields?!

So there are any number of factors I agree, but that is the most common where coverage can vary greatly wrt OEM parts.
Kindly post your experience rather than question the post on its intent. Zip up if you have nothing constructive to add....

I would double-check local windshield replacement places because they might have free chip repair for lifetime with glass replacement. I have almost 400,000 miles between my three vehicles and had two glass replacements and 5-7 chips between them. Auto Glass Now has repaired all chips after I replaced my glass on the 06 TSX and 08 RDX everytime with no charge.

I live in Houston.
most insurance companies just outsource the windshield replacement anyway...

www.autoglassbargain.com is located in North Houston, but can drive to your location to install windshields...also works with major insurance companies

Maybe I'm missing something, but unless you have a $0 deductible, aren't you going to pay for the entire cost of the windshield anyway? Every time I've had to replace my windshield it's cost between $150-$300. I have a relatively low deductible - $500, which I think is pretty standard among comprehensive auto insurance. It wouldn't make any sense to make a claim. The deductible is more than the windshield.

Also, I'm down with OEM parts when it comes to a lot of things. Timing belt components for example. Windshields? Not so much. Acura contracts Pilkington for their windshields (at least for the 4G TL), so you're just as well having a Pilkington installed rather than paying for OEM which is made by a 3rd party like Pilkington then slapped with a 100% increased price. It's like insisting on an "Acura" water pump when it's simply built by Aisin anyways. Might as well just buy the Aisin and skip the Acura middleman. On my original Acura windshield, it said "Pilkington" under the Acura symbol. I wouldn't recommend always defaulting to OEM assuming their superior or even equal to other manufacturers (which half the time, are the contractors for the parts). Example - Acura and Honda brake rotors = crap. Brembo and Centric are much better.

Very likely true. And you know what they're going to do (at most....)? Have them install a windshield from the original manufacturer, whether than be Saint-Gobain, Carlite, Pilkington, PPG, AP Tech, etc. I doubt there are any auto manufacturers who make their own glass.

Geico is pretty decent. I had them for a few years and they were very helpful with our claims. But again, unless you opt for a $0 deductible on your comprehensive, which is usually a bit pricey, you'll still be paying full out of pocket for a new windshield. Rock chip repair is usually free, but the only way I can see the windshield getting replaced without being more than your deductible would be if the car was damaged in other ways that resulted in the total bill being well over the $500 (or whatever) deductible.

Honestly, all insurance companies are going to favor aftermarket over oem windshields since they have to pay less. Doesn't really matter what company for the most part. I'd be more worried about decent collision coverage instead, and that's where I'd pick AAA over Geico any day. AAA has excellent customer service imo.

I have Geico and just needed a windshield replaced and their policy is they cover everything after your deductible. In my case with a deductible of $700 I don't need to file a claim as it only came to $480. Before living in Texas I was in MA, my insurance company had glass coverage which for $100 per year it covered up to two replacement windshields per 12 months which is MUCH better than the Texas rules.

It's not like that here in Texas. My windshield got a big chip and I took it to Safelite glass to repair. They repaired the chip but two days later it cracked and I was told they will not attempt another repair but they'll apply the $112 repair to a new windshield. So after the $112 credit I still paid $368 out of pocket. There is no lifetime coverage here with Safelite.
