Purchasing a 2017 MDX AWD-SH w/Tech
Hello all!
I visited my local Acura dealer the other day and test drove one of these MDX and like it. I asked how much. They told me it hasn't been listed yet but told me a price of 42k. But since I seem like such a nice guy, they offered it to me for 38k. I negotiated to 40,500 OTD.
The car seems to have that gas door issue whereas it sticks out a little bit. They told me they would try to fix it. The car has 15,800 miles or so on it.
As mentioned, this is the tech package. I've been to KBB and Edmonds but I can't seem to tell if I could have done better on the OTD price or should I go back to the table with them?

It is the SH-AWD. I'm told by the dealer that this was a loaner car. I would have to imagine the person or people borrowing this car while theirs is being serviced took car of it but you never know.
My only concern at the moment is the gas cap door. The salesperson claims to have had someone look at it. He said the service guy said it's how they are made. Now I can't argue that because it seems that quite a few people have this issue. But it also seems that some dealers are able to fix it.
Would the gas door be a showstopper? I don't know, I have to go back to the dealer tonight to take a look at it. I made the mistake of leaving a $500.00 deposit the other day.

I am always a little skeptical about loaners/rentals. Some folks take good care of them, others drive them like they are the loaners they are (not their own)! Is this a certified vehicle? Are you concerned about not getting your deposit back? Unless it was stated a non-refundable, you should get it back. They won't be happy a deal has not been made. But it probably isn't the first or last time. The gas door issue is a personal preference. Mine is off a little as well. But not enough for me to make a lot of noise about it until it goes in for the first service. I'll have them at least look at it then.

That makes the price a little more attractive. Typically you would pay a few grand premium on top of the typical cost of a pre-owned vehicle for one which has been CPO’d. They should provide you with the inspection sheet as well as what VMDX mentioned. Make sure you have them also provide you with the service history and Carfax information. Good luck!

Certification is a good thing. My experience is most dealers don't usually bargain down from what they are charging for that. Just a hunch that cert pricing is driven by corp Honda/Acura and dealers really don't have a say. Or maybe it is purely a profit grab.
Accessory cost for a dealer is low. They grossly mark up accessories and if it involves installation, the mark-ups are even greater. Get what you can is what I say. Never hurts to ask for everything. All they can say is no.

The gas door gap can be addressed - most MDX's have it to some extent. There's a TSB that replaces the inner part of the door with a cover to help protect water and ice over the capless fill opening - and in my case that replacement solved the fuel filler door gap issue.
If this was a dealer loaner - and it drives well/straight, I wouldn't worry. It's likely had all maintenance, and if the body isn't dinged and the highway drive is smooth, you should be OK - especially if certified.
