Thumbs up Our Black/Black 2014 MDX

Finally got our (actually my wife's) Black/Black 2014 MDX and over the weekend I installed all the accessories, polished and Opti-Coated it. We love the final look of the MDX and my wife is very happy with Black/Black combo.

Congrats on your purchase.

Black color looks exceptionally good. But it's gonna be hard work to keep it shinny all the times, especially during the nasty winter months.

It looks BEAUTIFUL. The rear sport trim looks really good, better than I thought. I have roof rails coming and will use them for my weathertech racksack w/o cross bars. I can't decide between trailer hitch and sport trim. I have nothing to tow and we don't have bikes at the moment. Decisions...decisions

Sports trim is very easy to install. You can put them on now and remove them when you get the hitch. I plan to install the hitch as soon as I get a boat which will happen as soon as I add one more garage stall. LOL!

I've had 5 black cars in a row (not counting MDX which is my wife's first black car) so I know what you mean. My routine with my Lexus is to do Optimun No Rinse (ONR) wash during the winters using two bucket wash method every week. Takes about 30 minutes. But with MDX being my wife's car I think she'll be content just getting touchless car wash weekly during the winter. Opti-Coat should help with maintenance.

I'm on the fence on roof rails but I would love to put on bigger set of wheels with fatter tires. I was surprise how skinny 245s look on the MDX.

Anyone know how big and wide wheels MDX can take without any modification?

Congratulations. Now if I too can get reasonable deal her in MN, great. Otherwise, I will buy it from IL.

You should call the dealer that aces2412 bought from. He paid $51k for Advance which is phenomenal deal. Even with shipping that is worth it in my opinion assuming you don't get one with build problems.

Driver, how long did it take you to install the LED foglights.

Everyone says it was a very time and labor consuming install.

Black on black. Opti-coat should definitely help with keeping it clean longer. And that neighborhood...your house...

Thank you all.

I took the car in to the dealer today to have the AcuraLink and Bluetooth issue looked at and I was supposed to pick it up after work but they called and said they didn't have the part to finish today. They indicated they are replacing the whole phone module. I should pick it up tomorrow around lunch time. And my luck would have it, it rained on the car as I was driving to the dealer. Hopefully Opti-Coat had enough time to bond...

I did a reset of MPG before I left home today to see what kind of MPG I would get driving to the dealer which is about 30 miles away and I got 28.7 MPG. WOW!

I had the dealer install LED Foglights, Heated Steering Wheel, Remote Start & Front Sports Bumper Trim. I figured these are most time consuming and also require most knowledge/equipment to complete. Also these are items I would want covered under 4 yr /50k miles mfg warranty.

I know what you mean but I think the final look is definitely worth it! I've had 5 black cars in a row and here is my latest. Tell me below is not worth it.

Hey I'm with you. They both have very distinctive look that appeals to me and are completely different driving car. I love how IS350 F-Sport handles when you put it in Sport or Sport+. It becomes totally different car.

Driver, how do you keep the IS so clean in the winter? I have no experience with cars and snow together, so forgive me on that.

I take it through touchless carwash and then do Optimum No-Rinse car wash in my garage 1 time a week. It doesn't stay that clean for too long unfortunately.

Also this IS350 F-Sport is RWD. I went with RWD vs AWD because certain features like 8 speed tranny from IS-F, VGRS & Power Tilt and Telescopic Steering Wheel were only available on RWD. I swaped to winter tires and I had no issues driving around.

Now if I need to drive through deep snow I'll just take the MDX SH-AWD.

Me thinks you got the sharpest cars and house in the neighborhood! I thought you couldn't tint the windshield? Isn't that risky for visibility with black interior?

Thanks for the compliment. There are lots of nice homes in our neighborhood and most of them are owned by very nice people. My kids love it here because they have lots of good friends around the neighborhood.

Crystalline film shows less tinted than most other tints at the same % but still provides very good solar heat rejection properties. That is why I went with it on the windshield. If I didn't tell you, you may not notice it's on the windshield. Even with our black interior difference in amount of heat in the car with Crystalline is huge.

My IS350 F-Sport has 90% Crystalline on the windshield and I wish I had gone with 70% for little better solar heat rejection.

Forgot to mention Headlights, Fog Lights, Front Bumper Trim & the Silver Front Shield has Xpel Ultimate applied as well.

So far we have ~608 miles on our MDX and everything has been great.
