The only change that 2018 brought is Android Auto/Apple CarPlay?
Does the 2018 have wireless Android Auto or does it require a wire?
Is there any mod for the 2017 and older MDXs to get wireless Android Auto support? And is it difficult to install?

It is wired Carplay for Android and Apple. You have to check into GROM or NavTool to add Carplay to the 14-17 MDXs base, tech, adv, or hybrid models. The +18 MDXs did update the info-tainment center console, updated trim pieces, added more tech like remote start and front sensors to tech model, and had some software/mechanical updates to the 9AT. You have to go with the +19 MDXs if want the Aspec version or +19 Adv 3.5L MDXs for electronic dampers. The hybrid models are pretty much unchanged for the 18-20 model years.

If I were you, I'd get 2017 MDX Sport Hybrid and throw in GROM VL2. I've installed GROM in two of my cars now, super easy peasy. Anyone with basic skills of removing radio can do it. Or have a shop do it for you.

I heard transmission issues until 2018.
2019+ seem a lot more smooth and of course as some others have mentioned, there are more tech. Also, the beautiful A-SPEC
