MDX Sport Hybrid
Greetings to MDX Sport Hybrid owners. I just wanted to start a thread for us. I just bought mine on Sat: an Advance in Lunar Silver with Greystone. First, how many of you are out there? How many MDX Sport Hybrid were made in 2017? I think it is around 2050 units of the total of all 2017 MDX production of around 55,000 units. My Sport Hybrid is sequence number 293. Yours is the last 4 numbers on your VIN number. If you are shopping for a MDX Sport Hybrid, good luck. They are scarce.

Welcome Comrade! There are three of us on this board if I'm not mistaken. If so I apologize but chime in! We should have a roll call of sorts! You are going to just love this vehicle! Feel free to ask any question and we will be happy to oblige.

Bought mine end of May, sequence #622, first unit sold in my area. White, Advance black interior. 7500 miles so far, no issues, love the transmission and handling. Put the spare tire on myself with parts ordered on line. Sweet spot of mileage seems to be between 45 and 55 for me, I can easily get over 30 mpg at these speeds on a daily 22 mile drive. 28 to 30 mpg in highway trips 70-75 mph. Overall for me has been 26.8 for all driving. I could do better if I used the ACC less and manually handled the accelerator as the ACC is a bit jerky and adds throttle at times when it isn't needed which cuts out the electric motors needlessly. Very happy with the vehicle. Would like the new connectivity options with the 2018 but have learned to live with what I have.

Welcome!
We just got ours a couple weeks ago..ultra rare (at least in California) White/Ebony Sport Hybrid Tech Pkg. We wanted the 7 seats, so wasn't interested in the Advance.
Took forever to find a Tech in White/Ebony in SoCal..only 2 exists AFAIK around here.
Our is #1721 built date 8/17.
Mods so far: Xpel Ultimate Clear bra, 3M Crystalline Tint, OEM Front and Rear Parking Sensors.
Next Mod: Chrome Advance Running Boards, then I'm done. Already spent too much money on this SUV.
I heard Acura only allocated 5% of all MDX as Sport Hybrid. Less than 1% of that are Sport Hybrid in Tech Pkg. So we feel extra special driving around in our rare SUV

I was going to make a new Post but might as well ask my fellow Sport Hybrid owners here.
Do you guys have trouble closing the doors? Maybe because ours is brand new, but we always have a tough time closing the doors.
Always have to slam it hard for it to shut tight. Wish the MDX had soft closing doors.
I remember my '92 Legend Coupe had soft closing doors...very luxurious feel.
Also wish the MDX had *Automatic* Electronic Parking Brake.
I know it have Electronic Parking Brake, but always have to engage/disengage it is lame for a Luxury SUV in this price range.
Plus that tiny button is hard to reach on the left side. I'd rather they just put regular foot operated parking brakes. I'd use that more.

Flyboy, It's nice to have a Sport Hybrid on this chat that has some miles. You can be our flight lead. Did you have to do the TSB 029 for the fuel feed hose? And where did you buy the parts for the spare? Thanks

There must be secondary braking system on the MDX that will stop the car in event of brake failure.

No, I did not have the TSB on the fuel hose. I got the parts for the Acura dealer in Peoria AZ on line https://www.oemacuraparts.com/ I ordered the tire from TireRack
The phone support if ?? from this Acura parts location was very good and helpful. There are good threads on this site and the MDX owners site concerning spare tires.

I test-drove the Sport Hybrid and really liked it a lot, better than the std. engine. Quite a bit peppier, I thought! Unfortunately they did not give much of a discount on the 2017 Sport Hybrid so I ended up getting (leading) the std. MDX SH with tech. pkg.

Kudos to Acura. Even though the magnetorheological shocks are expensive, they are still far cheaper than the full-on air suspensions and break down way less.

Cool! I've never even heard for magnetorheological dampers before. Looks like our MDX are among the few high-end vehicles that uses this type of suspension.
$1500 premium for Sport Hybrid is so worth it just for this Active Dampening System.
Via Wikipedia:
These types of systems are available from OEMs for several vehicles, including the Acura MDX, Audi TT and R8, Buick Lucerne, Cadillac ATS, CTS-V, DTS, XLR, SRX, STS, Chevrolet Corvette, Camaro ZL1, Ferrari 458 Italia, 599GTB, F12 Berlinetta, Shelby GT350, Holden HSV E-Series and Lamborghini Huracán.[2] These systems were produced by the Delphi Corporation and now by BWI Group under the proprietary name MagneRide.

I usually hang out at mdxers.org for MDX discussions. But I have a Advance White/Brown purchased in June. Without going out to look, I think I am 809. We still have less than 1000 miles on it. Our daughter is off to college so we have been driving her Honda Fit a lot.

Odmd 2.0
Hi there I am new to this forum and came here to ask if anyone knew whether or not the 2017 hybrid advance has the 1.0 or 2.0 ODMD touchscreen? We are looking at possibly buying one tomorrow and we were told by the salesman that the hybrids have the 2.0 touchscreen.
#26
Speedymofo78, Word of caution, Salesman will tell you anything to make a sale and then play dumb later. My 2017 S.H. Advance has the same touchscreen as all the other 2017 MDXs that I test drove. The 2018 MDX has a newer touchscreen and the pages look a little different. If they have a 2018 on the lot, go back and forth to see if they are different. FYI
#27
Thank you for your quick reply! I will bring this up when we go back tomorrow. I am mow considering waiting a couple months until the 2018’s rollout. Is it worth it to wait in your opinion? We are not in a hurry but we are also excited to get into a new vehicle.

Acura has treated the MDX Sport Hybrid as a kind of a mid year model. It is quite a bit different than the gas MDX in a lot of areas, If you go on the Acura web site you can build a 2018 MDX but only a 2017 Sport Hybrid MDX. So if you want the Hybrid I don't know who to ask to get the truth about when the 2018 MDX Hybrid will get to the dealers. The salesman will probably tell you some BS. The real truth probably lies in fact that Acura moved the MDX production from AL to OH at the end of the 2017 MDX production run. Now all MDX are built in Marysville OH. For 2018 the Hybrid might be available soon, then again it might be another mid year model. Just FYI, not much help with your decision.

I'm in the same boat. Was looking at '17 hybrid, but decided to wait. True I could get a decent deal on the '17, but the Mrs., who will be the daily driver, wants the improved system with the Apple Car Play functionality. I'll be waiting. That wait of course will come will less of a chance to get a decent deal on an outgoing model year AND a slight price increase by Acura for the '18.

Good morning. I just got a 19 mdx hybrid advance and am having the same trouble with having to slam the door to close. Did they ever get better for you or was there a fix?

Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System Alerts pedestrians when a vehicle is propelled solely by electricity, approaching at speeds around 12 mph (20 km/h) or less.
