MDX in the snow?

Hello,

New member here and looking to potentially buy the MDX, but wanted to know about how the MDX handles in snow. I did a search and didn't find any reference to driving experiences in the snow.

With all the snow in midwest and northeast, I hope members here can share their experiences.

Thank you.

Most impressive vehicle I have ever driven in the snow... and here in Ottawa, we have a TON of snow and ice on the roads, from December-March.

Check this out - SH-AWD kills the competition in ice traction:

Obviously tires play a large part of snow handling, but the SH-AWD is the best system I have used. Here in New England, we have had a ton of snow and the MDX has been confidence inspiring.

SH-AWD in Snow

I live in Chicago, and this was definitely the most intense snow season I've seen in my 45 years. Took delivery of the 14 X in November before first snow, and I can tell you, it's actually a blast to drive in all of the snow we endured. I have to say it was bittersweet, as I'm so anal retentive about exposing the vehicle to the snow, salt, etc. I have a company car and can use that most of the time, but I elected to drive the X in many of the storms just because it handles so awesomely.

Living in one of the snowy and coldest parts of Canada, I really wanted a car that can really handle snow and ice. The mdx has been flawless even thoaugh I did not change the tires but used the original all season tires. I have driven many cars in snow and this is a really excellent choice.

Thanks for the feedback. One of my neighbors down the street has a MDX and about 5 years ago after a snowstorm, she got stuck in the street. The snow plows hadn't come by yet and there was maybe 6 or 7 inches on the road. Her wheels were spinning and we ended up pushing her MDX back into the driveway. And yes, she has AWD.

Funny, the Acura salesman mentioned this very video yesterday.

LOL, would love too. Stopped by the Acura dealer today and they tried to lowball me on my Lexus GX470.

Tires make a world of difference in snow. My MDX through this winter handled the snow quite well. We had 6 inches down and no plow... like a boss the MDX got out no problem. My brother drove through 8-10inches earlier this year with the stock all seasons. He also made it through snow covered highways without a problem.

AWD is useless without proper tread on your tires.

You should Google the Acura winter driving experience on YouTube that motortrend did...SHAWD, rules!

^^ Exactly!! The best combination for winter driving is AWD with Winter tires.

A set of good snow tires is a must.

With high ground clearance, SH-AWD, and proper snow tires, the MDX is virtually invincible on snow and ice.

Theres a great vid on youtube showing how much snow tires help. A FWD w/snow tires made an AWD w/o snow tires look useless.
