MDX resale value

I was trying to get a sense of MDX resale value, after, say 10 years. 10 years ago, MDX gen 1 had just undergone an MMC. To take another comparable model, Toyota Highlander gen 1 had undergone an MMC as well around the same time. A fully loaded Highlander LTD plus some option packages was comparable in content to a base MDX, and coincidentally both cost around $36K in the US. If anything, probably OTD price on the Highlander would have been lower since Toyota dealers would have discounted more due to volume.

If we see private party sale price estimated by kbb.com, that used Highlander would supposedly fetch around 12.5k but the base MDX would only fetch around 7.5k. Even touring model is under 9k. Why would this be? I would have thought MDX as a premium brand would hold value better, or at least the same as a Toyota.

MDX resale value is incredible, and next to the RDX, is the best within the Acura lineup.

2011's are selling for over $30k or more depending on option level. At this point, when you can option a Highlander to $46-47k (non Hybrid, regular gas model), and that car holds decent value but not to the same level as a luxury and lower production volume MDX.

Not sure which stats you see, but same year for same year, the MDX is usually a bit more expensive new as it should be, and retains more of that value later than a mass market Toyota. Plus used models are more in demand.

The only time I've seen values soften were on 2010-2013 models the first 6 months of 2014's being introduced. Then they swung back up, as inventory of both generations stabilized a bit more.

2006 Resale
We just traded in our 2006 MDX with 70K on the clock. Car was in great condition and was EXACTLY 8 years old (from the time we picked it up). Got $13,250 for it on the trade. Was the loaded version with Ent.

I think we paid like $39K for it new - I'd say that 34% residual on an 8 year old car is great.
